INFIRMARY ➢ CLOSED to Erik
[ Adrenaline has been fueling his body for a while now, having allowed him to power through the gunshot wound he took to his shoulder during the heist. It's not looking too bad either, but he definitely lost some blood, and the area around the injury is swollen and aching. He's also looking a little paler than usual, which at this point is to be expected.
He's making a good job of acting as though it doesn't bother him much, though. Behind pressed lips, he grits his teeth while he gets the wound cleaned and bandaged, while he's told that he needs to wait for a little longer before anyone can stitch it up properly, or heal it altogether. He doesn't complain, just nods in agreement, then leans back on the bed, preparing himself to wait for a while until anyone can check his injury. ]

WORK OUT THE STRESS ➢ OPEN
[ Working out is quite possibly not the brightest idea he's had so far, but also: it's been almost a week now, and Jim is absolutely done with sitting around taking it easy. His shoulder is still sore, but at this point he doesn't really care anymore. He can power through it, he's dealt with much worse than this.
So he's made it to the training room, where he's going through a few individual training exercises. He might be doing something more active like HITT training or boxing moves, or other times he'll be going through various yoga positions, which help him with the soreness on his shoulder. On occasion he will be likely looking like he's struggling, but good luck having him admit to that. ]

On occasion he will be likely looking like he's struggling, but good luck having him admit to that. ]
SPACE LESSONS ➢ OPEN
[ Now back on the station, Jim plans to resume the classes he's offered to anyone who wants to learn more about space. He's contacted anyone who's shown interest, has invited everyone to spread the word if anyone else wants to show up, and he's also put together some reading material on basics of space, how it divides into galaxies and solar systems, how orbits work, what kinds of astronomical objects there are. With questions about how people don't "fall off planets", he has also included a bit of information about gravity, and he's now at the mess hall at an arranged time, with a few books and tablets where he and whoever shows up can go through some information. ]
KITCHEN NIGHTMARE ➢ OPEN
[ So, Jim technically doesn't know how to cook. That said, he's been trying to learn. Mostly on his own, relying on recipes he finds and tips and tricks he's learned from reading, but he's quickly realizing that putting theory to practice is pretty tricky when it comes to cooking.
At least he hasn't set fire to the kitchen yet, but he may be struggling a little between something frying, some batter he's got that looks somewhat overbeat, or just cursing while he tries to disperse a small cloud of smoke that emerges when he opens the oven door. ]
Damn it...

HERE COMES THE SUN ➢ OPEN
[ The sunlight room is another place Jim enjoys visiting, during this downtime. He has with him a sketchbook and some drawing supplies, and finding a quiet spot to sit, he entertains himself sketching various things. Whether the scenery he has here, or other things from memory, like his ship; on occasion he may be even trying to draw simple portraits of people he knows, both from home and from the station. He's pretty immersed in it, but he will welcome any company, and he's quick to offer a small smile when approached. ]
Have a seat, if you want.

WILDCARD! ➢ OPEN
[ Would you like to run into Jim anywhere else on the station? Feel free to pull out your wildcard and write a starter of your own! ]

s t r e s s
Jim could do laps around him had he the mind to; he only needs a handful of steps on his own way to tending to his own need for exercise to catch up with Blue on his own way. how he walked so long in Braccia, where that stamina's gone...mysteries, frustrating mysteries. Blue can't do much to solve them, so instead he's just trying to stay upright as he takes those laborious steps, hand planted on the wall for balance.
please move, he wills himself, bargaining, hoping. he wouldn't be here if he wasn't able to do anything, and what could be more simple? one foot in front of the other...it's not hard. even if it hurts, it's not hard!]
no subject
It's how he ends up running into Blue, spotting him from a distance, concerned when he sees the way that he's propping his weight up against a wall with a shaky hand. ]
Blue! [ He calls out, picking up pace to make it there faster. He reaches out, but doesn't quite touch him, hands just hovering. ] Are you alright?
no subject
Hello, James. [just a murmur, best he can do aloud.] I'm not...in any danger. [his mouth tugs briefly before he turns his head to look ahead.]
No more than...walking in Braccia. I suppose. [exhale.]
I didn't...get a chance to thank you yet...did I?
no subject
You didn't, but you don't have to. Just glad to see you back here and safe. [ He smiles. ] If you're trying to get somewhere, I can help.

Kitchen Nightmare
Okay, maybe that’s unfair, since it’s not like she can do better. She can’t even make coffee, honestly. Still, it’s clear this guy was trying to do too much at once and it’s nice to know she’s not the only one who sucks at this. She watches him open the oven and speaks as the smoke pours out.]
Hoh, and I thought I was bad.
no subject
Not looking so good, is it?
[ His first mistake was likely trying to do too much at once. But well, he's always been an overachiever, eager to challenge himself any chance he gets. ]
At least nothing's on fire... yet.
no subject
[She fans away some of the smoke as it wafts over to her, and then approaches the oven.]
What are you trying to make?
[Not that she can offer much help, but she’s curious.]
no subject
[ There's more batter on the counter, but it's a sticky, sloppy mess. The thing currently half-sticking to the bottom of a pan is what's probably meant to be the glaze. ]
In my defense, I have mastered scrambled eggs.

he slips in when attendance is low, looking over jim with a faint smile. ]
Heard you got bumped around a lot, future man.
no subject
Who, me? Just a flesh wound, I'm totally fine.
[ And not in any pain at all, oh no. ]
no subject
[ it's definitely not a flesh wound, especially to erik's trained eyes that flickers over it in a second before returning to jim's face. ]
'Sides, I can take care of it. You wanna miss out on these magic hands?
no subject
Why would you poke it to begin with?
[ But yeah no, please don't poke it. ]
You can stitch wounds? [ Impressive. He has no idea that Erik can actually heal, evidently. ] I mean, you can do it if you want, but they're gonna patch it up properly in a bit.

space lessons!
So... the worlds we've been going to, those aren't the stars themselves? They're something else, planets, like where I come from. The stars are like the sun. ... How many planets are there, then? With people on them?
no subject
That's right. Well, some stars are like the sun, others are different, but you definitely can't set foot on a star like you can on a planet.
[ Well, most planets anyway. ]
That's impossible to answer. There are more planets in any single universe than we'd be able to count on a lifetime. They do divide into different types, though, and not all of them are suited for organic lifeforms, or at least humanoid lifeforms like us. Where I'm from, we call those planets suited for humanoid life "Minshara class planets", or class M planets for short. They gather the general characteristics necessary for our survival: breathable atmosphere, drinkable water, average temperatures, varied flora and fauna, and so on. But there are other types of planets capable of sustaining different types of life, just not human life.
no subject
You have a name for a whole class of them, though. So they must be common enough to need that kind of name, instead of just listing a few and thinking that's all of them. How about moons, do people live on moons? Do most planets even have moons?
no subject
[ He smiles a little at the question. Interesting one, not a lot of people even think of that upon learning of planets for the first time. ]
Yes, some people do live on moons. From what we've observed so far, a lot of planets have moons, and some planets have more than just one; sometimes just two or three, other times up to a hundred or beyond that.

kitchen nightmare
[ Sam whistles on his way into the kitchen, caught between amusement and concern over... whatever the hell this display is. Nonsense, maybe. Nonsense is what it is. ]
You, ah. Need a hand? Or some pointers? Or a take out menu?
no subject
burningcooking in the oven must be done by now if he's not too worried about getting it out yet. ]At this point, I'd take that menu if you had it, [ He sighs. ] There's more to cooking than meets the eye, it looks like.
no subject
For now. Instead he moves closer, grabs a dish towel. ]
A hand to dump this out, then, and then I'll help you learn to do it right. I know what I'm doing in a kitchen, though if you ever meet my sister, don't believe a word she has to say on the matter.
no subject
Duly noted. You don't think we can at least salvage the inside of the cake?
[ He hates seeing food go to waste, and he already feels bad enough about having burnt the outside. ]

KITCHEN NIGHTMARE
[ Comes the deadpan question from Yzak after he drops in, having spotted some smoke wafting out into the mess hall. ]
What are you trying to make?
no subject
[ It's not his fault that other people have tried to burn down the kitchen before... I mean, not that he's trying to burn it down. That was an unwanted consequence. ]
A cake. But it didn't go over too well... I'm still hoping to salvage some of it.
[ If only because he hates letting food go to waste. ]
no subject
[ At this rate someone is going to burn the kitchen down, if the pattern continues! ]
How complicated a cake? I can probably help. Salvageability is going to depend what we see what happened in there once the smoke clears.

It's just a bit of smoke. We can still save this.
[Whatever it is he's making, she's sure they can salvage.]
no subject
Thanks. I'm not sure if it's salvageable, but... I'm willing to give it a try.
[ If they can somehow cut off all the charred areas. ]
