CHARACTERS: Wei Wuxian, a giant dead crab, and you!

CONTENT: Eating crabs
WARNINGS: None at the moment
A
[The day after their return from Xrisora, Wei Wuxian can be found having taken over one of the stoves in the kitchen. Lying on the counter next to him are two crab legs—that is, two giant crab legs from a Titan Crab. How did he get them here? It is a mystery. Anyway, he’s taken over a part of the kitchen with his crab shenanigans and is slowly but surely beginning to cook one of the legs up. After a while, he makes the executive decision to freeze a leg and a half because there is absolutely no way they’ll be able to eat all of it.
Anyway, he is cooking so much crab.
At some point he is absolutely burning some of the crab. Maybe someone can supervise? Please come save the crab.]
B
[Somehow, most of the crab gets cooked without being burned or ruined in some other way, which means it is time to season it! Do you like your crab spicy? Obviously you do, why wouldn’t you? Who doesn’t like spice? Only crazy people, that’s who!
Thankfully, Wei Wuxian is friends with Itachi which means he’s aware that some people on the station can’t handle spice. This means that most of the crab is boring and only has some melted butter on it, and absolutely zero eye searing red flakes and spices.
Everyone should help themselves to crab. Their options are terrible, boring, (perfectly fine) normal crab, or delicious, stunning, wonderful (hope you didn’t need your tastebuds or your esophagus!) spicy crab.]
C
[And at some point, a text across the network.]
I’m making crab!
[That’s it, that’s the text, he doesn’t have time for this network nonsense, his pan is on fire!]
D
[Wildcard it! Crab related or other!]

[ The peak of technological advancement for them was those ancient automatons they'd seen in the holy tomb... Nothing their present civilization was capable of recreating.
All this? Goes well beyond even that. ]
Wyverns are... I guess you could call them huge, winged lizards? The wings are there in place of forelimbs. Large enough they could carry a rider or two.
no subject
Still, the idea of something that a person could ride in the sky is one that fills him with awed wonder.]
Have you ridden one? Is it common where you're from for people to ride? Does everyone do it?
no subject
[ As for how common it is, he pauses to think about that, having never given it much consideration before. ]
I've only ever heard of female pegasus riders, not that I'm too familiar with why that is. Men or women can ride on wyverns... I'd say it's not uncommon, but it takes skill to, say, engage in combat on a flying mount. For simple travel, they tend to be well-trained.
[ And where time was of the essence, sometimes quite necessary. ]
You have anything people here find unusual like that, back home?
no subject
Cultivators—that is, people who manipulate spiritual energy—can use swords to fly. No one else seems to be familiar with that.
[But he's not done with what Yuri had told him, and he furrows his brow, expression curious.] Only women can ride them! How interesting. I wonder if the winged horses have a preference. [Which. Fair. Men are generally much more fussy.]
Also, while others here seem to be familiar with the manipulation of qi or something like it, no one else refers to them as cultivators from what I've seen. [Itachi's chakra and Rosinante's haki were certainly similar enough to spiritual qi users in concept though.]
no subject
[ Yuri takes it in stride, at least. Relics had all sorts of wild effects, after all, though he doesn't think flight is one of them. He can imagine how that'd impact the war back home, so it seems for the best.
It sounds like it requires magical aptitude of a sort, as well... Is spiritual energy like faith magic...? ]
Can't say I've heard either term, myself. I wonder if it's at all like a form of magic... But you know, I can't blame anyone having a preference, pegasus included.
no subject
It isn't magic, but I've learned that most people here label anything outside of the natural world as such so it's an easy mistake to make. [He smiles good naturedly at Yuri, clearly unoffended.]
Every living thing in all the worlds has "qi"—living energy if you will. Cultivators take that qi and refined it into spiritual energy, and that's what powers their abilities. It stems from the spiritual world, not any sort of magic. [And he's met people here who struggle to understand the difference there, but he always feels obligated to explain nonetheless.]
no subject
[ Though that's coming from a man who truly does believe in the Goddess, so Yuri's well aware that even how others from Fódlan view wielding magic will vary, to say nothing of those who went into its study in Fhirdiad, or got deep into theory.
...Or dabbled in wild experiments like Constance, but none of that was Faith magic. ]
'Course, I could be wrong. [ Something he can admit easily with a slanted smile and a shrug. ] I don't think I'm really refining anything, for one thing.
no subject
If there's no refining, it's definitely not the same. But who cares about any of that, I think this batch is done! [And not burned! He sets to work plating the edible pieces of crab meat and setting them aside.]
Do you like spicy food? [As he asks, he reaches for an assortment of spices, each as bright red as the last.]
no subject
[ Yuri's none too sure what the refining part means, exactly, but that probably goes to the point. It makes him wonder, if only for a moment, how others from home would take to the concept.
But that's hardly something he can confirm. Instead, he turns his attention to the spices. ]
I don't mind a little heat. Most food from my country's considered bland, but I'm from a border territory.
no subject
This is more than a little heat. Try it and tell me what you think! I can do yours the same if you like it!
[RIP Yuri's tastebuds, tonsils, and esophagus if he does.]
no subject
He's pretty sure he knows what he's in for here, eyeing that reddened meat critically. ]
...You might breathe fire if you eat it like that.
[ So he's making a bee-line to the fridge to retrieve the milk he'd spotted there earlier and collecting glasses for it as well. ]
That normally how much you use?
no subject
Back home, the region I'm from is known for spicy food. I still like it more than most people I know though. Even my...ah, even my brother thinks I'm crazy.
I can't help it if I have good taste!
no subject
But he does sound absolutely serious about it. ]
Against my better judgment I'll give it a shot, but I'm ready for the inevitable.
[ He taps the rim of the glass nearest to him. Well-traveled as he is, Yuri has crossed paths with at times surprisingly spicy food more than once. This, he suspects, is well beyond that. ]
no subject
You'll thank me, it's great! [He won't, and it's not. Wei Wuxian just has an unhealthy addiction to spice.]
no subject
His expectations are met — even exceeded — when he forks a small bite. Immediately, his eyes burn, and he grabs the milk he'd brought over. Only once he's gulped that down does he try to speak, his voice somewhat choked by the experience. ]
You've got some fortitude, I'll give you that.
no subject
Aiya, well at least you tried! [It's more than he can say for most!]
Alright, alright, you have your boring flavorless portion and I'll have mine. Come on, let's go eat. [He grins an nods at one of the tables for them to go and take a seat and dig in.]
