[Open] October Catch-all
CHARACTERS: Kaidan Alenko and you!
LOCATION: around the station
DATE: October catch-all
CONTENT: Cooking, training with body and biotics, whatever
WARNINGS: probably nothing beyond some light swearing and friendly sparring
Cooking with Kaidan
[On certain times and days, Kaidan decided to go into the kitchen and do some cooking. He looked through the fridge and food storage for ingredients he could work with and put something together. Working out what would taste best for whatever result he had in mind helped keep his brain from spinning around everything that happened on the mission. And the end result was tasty, so that was a plus.
If anyone came by while he was cooking, he would gladly strike up a conversation and offer them some of the food when he was finished]
Training Montague
Years of being in the Alliance drilled it into Kaidan to keep in shape even between missions. This last one especially prompted him to get in more training-- biotic training specifically, but he knew it wouldn't hurt to keep up with his physical prowess as well. If there was no one to spar with in the training room, he would do his own routines. He also did laps around the station.
As for his biotic training, the simulation room seemed like the safest place to do that. He wouldn't have to worry about holding back against simulated enemies. Strengthening his shield was his top priority, but Kaidan worked on his other skills as well while he was in there.
Weird Biology (closed to Newton)
[Kaidan hadn't forgotten his promise to Newton that the man could examine his biology, he sent a thought-text letting him know Kaidan was ready to be examined whenever Newton was. He would have done this regardless, since a xenobiologist was probably the best person to know, but after the mission it seemed especially important that someone on the station knew Kaidan's biology and how the biotics affected him]
Wildcard
[If none of these appeal to you, you may also find Kaidan in other parts of the station. Sometimes in the common living area reading books, sometimes in the sunlight room just enjoying the nature. Or you can poke me on plurk
seraphjewel if you want to plot something! Either actionspam or prose is fine, I'll match style]

Let me just show you. [He suddenly lights up blue. The barrier covers his entire body, making him glow] This is my biotic barrier. It's like an extra layer of protection in battle. I can hold this for hours at a time, even when I'm getting shot. Other powers take more concentration and energy. [He drops the barrier again] All I do is think about it and it happens.
no subject
[He's penning all this down, give him a moment.
Watching it sure is something, though. He stares at it in fascination, feeling an immediate urge to reach out and poke the potentially dangerous energy being projected. It's fine, that's something he's learned to live with in life. Sure didn't stop him as a kid putting a fork in a light socket out of curiosity about how it feels to get electrocuted, though.]
I would love to measure the energy you're expending when you switch that on and off. We'll do some basic EEG studies of your brain if you want, just to see what's going on in there. I'd like to make sure there aren't any hidden adverse effects to using this stuff for long periods of time for you, dude.
... Are there any recorded effects from prolonged use of biotics in your world?
no subject
[He's not sure what it'll pick up. He emits a static charge anyway, even when he's not using his biotics. Thanks, L2 implant]
So I guess that answers your other question. The oldest species who use biotics are asari and krogan. My generation would be the oldest human biotics. [There was that Subject White, but she's dead, so] Some people are exposed more than once. Shepard, my commanding officer, was exposed twice. He's never shown any adverse effects from that. Of course, we're the lucky ones. Some are born with brain tumors or other physical complications.
no subject
[He bites his lip.]
And brain tumors would be a concern, yeah. Medical check-ups are your friend. [He's a massive hypocrite, of course. He's got a concerning issue in his own brain, but hey, migraines aren't a big deal for him specifically, obviously! Either way, he lets it be.] Is a human's life span influenced by this ability? Or are the asari just a long-lasting species in general?
no subject
No, I don't think life span is affected. Turians can be biotics and their life span is about the same as a human's. The asari and krogan are just long-living by nature.

[Newton's scribbling notes absently as he goes.]
What's this implant look like? Can I take a lookie-loo? Just gonna sketch what it looks like for reference.
no subject
Ah, sure, you can look. [He tilts his head down and points to where the implant is] You'll probably need an X-Ray.
[Reference picture here]

[He taps his pen to his lips in thought.]
I've got a handheld that could read the energy coming from the biotics when you use them, though. Maybe if I work at it, I could even create a tool that replicates your capabilities as a fun little side-project.
What were your exact powers again? You said barrier earlier, but what else?
no subject
Yeah, the barrier. I can also create a shield that protects anyone under it from attack. I'm working on that one. I can also lift things into the air or throw them. If I'm in battle, I can create a stasis field that freezes an enemy in place for a few seconds. And I can reave, which means I attack the target's nervous system. It works on synthetics too, but not as well. There are other biotic abilities, but those are the ones I'm most capable of performing.
no subject
You can attack nervous systems?
[Stasis field, okay. Shield, got it. But that one sounds pretty out there.]

1/2
no subject
No, wait, is it deadly? Does it hurt?
If it doesn't hurt, do it, I wanna see!
1/2
Why are you like this, Newt?]
no subject
No, there's absolutely no way I'm doing that. I... look, if you want me to do anything to you, I'll lift you in the air. The most harm you'll come from that is a tingle.
no subject
[He moves to the middle of the room, sliding his pen to sit on one ear before clapping his hands together once in determination.]
Pick me up, Kaidan. Give me the full 'Patrick Swayze' effect.
[He's only half-kidding about Swayze. But he's ready!!!]
no subject
[He raises his hand. Newt will find himself enveloped in a blue glow, and slowly he lifts up into the air. Kaidan holds him so Newt's high enough for his feet to no longer be touching the ground. If Kaidan's expression is anything to go by, this little act of mind power is no strain on him at all]
You doing okay?
no subject
[He looks absolutely jolly about this whole thing. Sure, blue glowing has been kind of unfortunate for him in symbolism, but he's more than happy to ignore that for the fact that he's floating right now. Holy shit!]
Ha, damn! Peter Pan, eat your heart out.
This really isn't hard for you at all, huh?!
no subject
Not really, no.
[And just to demonstrate, he pulls up his barrier at the same time]
Some of my powers take more energy and concentration, but this is the kind of thing I do all the time in battle.
no subject
Embarrassing, really.]
So cool...! I guess there's the possibility for anti-gravity guns, but this is way more convenient. You get your groceries without a cart, too, or what?
no subject
Biotics aren't really welcomed by the general public. We're mostly seen as freaks.
no subject
[He lands daintily on his feet, and then looks rather displeased.]
Well, you don't have to worry about that here! I'm not gonna pretend I'm the professional at identifying freaks, but who cares? We're all freaks here! They can stuff it up their asses.
[He's so eloquent, huh????]
no subject
So you've seen me in action. My body temperature is going to be a little higher than normal, but it's supposed to do that, so don't be alarmed.
