[Open] October Catch-all
CHARACTERS: Kaidan Alenko and you!
LOCATION: around the station
DATE: October catch-all
CONTENT: Cooking, training with body and biotics, whatever
WARNINGS: probably nothing beyond some light swearing and friendly sparring
Cooking with Kaidan
[On certain times and days, Kaidan decided to go into the kitchen and do some cooking. He looked through the fridge and food storage for ingredients he could work with and put something together. Working out what would taste best for whatever result he had in mind helped keep his brain from spinning around everything that happened on the mission. And the end result was tasty, so that was a plus.
If anyone came by while he was cooking, he would gladly strike up a conversation and offer them some of the food when he was finished]
Training Montague
Years of being in the Alliance drilled it into Kaidan to keep in shape even between missions. This last one especially prompted him to get in more training-- biotic training specifically, but he knew it wouldn't hurt to keep up with his physical prowess as well. If there was no one to spar with in the training room, he would do his own routines. He also did laps around the station.
As for his biotic training, the simulation room seemed like the safest place to do that. He wouldn't have to worry about holding back against simulated enemies. Strengthening his shield was his top priority, but Kaidan worked on his other skills as well while he was in there.
Weird Biology (closed to Newton)
[Kaidan hadn't forgotten his promise to Newton that the man could examine his biology, he sent a thought-text letting him know Kaidan was ready to be examined whenever Newton was. He would have done this regardless, since a xenobiologist was probably the best person to know, but after the mission it seemed especially important that someone on the station knew Kaidan's biology and how the biotics affected him]
Wildcard
[If none of these appeal to you, you may also find Kaidan in other parts of the station. Sometimes in the common living area reading books, sometimes in the sunlight room just enjoying the nature. Or you can poke me on plurk
seraphjewel if you want to plot something! Either actionspam or prose is fine, I'll match style]

Cooking
Ey man, I didn't know you could cook. [ He leaned against the door frame and smiled at Kaidan, as casual as he could be. Peter was leaning on his left side, as his right arm was still in a sling. ] Whatcha doing?
no subject
Yeah, I took classes when I was younger. I thought I might make something and ended up throwing together some stir fry. You're welcome to join me when it's done.
[After a short pause] How's your arm?
no subject
[ That's fine, Peter doesn't expect a handshake. He walks closer to Kaidan, that can speak to him and keep his eyes trained on the food he's making. ]
It gives me some trouble when I lie down to sleep, but otherwise it's healing well, thanks. Did you get hurt during the mission? Everything was a mess in the end, and I lost track of a lot of people.
no subject
[To the question, he shrugs] My barrier took the brunt of the damage, so I got away with minor bruises and a few scrapes. I was pretty lucky. I wish I could've helped more, but it took a lot to keep that building from crashing down on everyone.
no subject
[ The stir fry that Kaidan is cooking smells real nice too and peter gives it a better look, humming in approval. ]
That's a relief . Good tech really saves lives. I'd say that stopped a whole building form falling is helping enough, Kaidan. You did great.
no subject
[That gets him to smile]
Thanks. It was good motivation for me to work on my biotic shield.

[ Despite Peter's apparent complaint, the fondness in his voice is impossible to mask. So it's the shadow of sadness crossing his face for the brief moment before he can scold his face in a more neutral, and then happier expression. ]
Better to keep those skills sharp. The rest of your teams they also had those bionic powers? I don't remember if I asked you that before.

Liara and Javik are biotics, and Shepard has the potential if he ever wanted to learn. We all have different specialties.
no subject
And can others learn that skill? [ Peter lean back against the counter, watching Kaidan cook as they talk. He will help if needed, but ht also doesn't want to distract him too much. ] Sounds like something that could help us on missions, but I imagine it require a lot of special training.
no subject
First, you'd have to be exposed in utero to a material we call element zero. Even then it's not a guarantee you'll show any biotic potential. If you did, you'd then be given an implant to help use the power in a practical way. Mine is in the back of my head. But yeah, after all that you would have to be trained.

[ That's how greedy people act all over the Galaxy. It's something Peter had learned from a young age. He watches Kaidan move and wishes he could offer some help, but he's not sure what to do. The other man seems to have everything under control, and he's also been warned about moving his right shoulder too much while it's healing. ]
Does that mean that your government put the implant there? If you stop working from them, do they take it away? It seems dangerous if it's on the back of your head.
no subject
[Yep, he's basically saying that the stuff in his body is the same stuff used in ship engines]
They've tried getting me to retrofit before, but as you said, it's in a dangerous spot. I'm not risking letting anyone go back there. But no, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone's implant being forcibly removed. It's the only way we can use biotics in a practical way, so I can't see the Alliance ever trying to remove it from someone.

We have different kinds of batteries in mine, and in my universe, we have the Universal Neural Teleportation Network. It's an artificial network of generating wormholes in the space continuum that allows us to jump from one point of the Galaxy to the next one in seconds. it saves gas.
[ Not like the Benatar or the Milano ever used gas, that's too primitive, but it's true that using the network helps everyone save on fuel. It's also more environmentally friendly. ]
Good, that sounds like it would be nasty. [ The Alliance might not do that, but Peter could imagine enemies who would like that tech in their possession to try to use it. It's a grim suggestion, though, and he keeps it to himself. ]
no subject
[He gets lost in thought trying to think of a scenario where a biotic's implant would be removed. Other L2's might be retrofitted, maybe. Kaidan snaps out of his thoughts enough to gesture to the food]
Help yourself.
no subject
[ Any scenario Kaidan can come up with, it's probably not a good one. So it must be for the better that he can't imagine that happening easily. At the offered food, Peter's eyes got a little wide, even if he's clearly looking at the offered dish appreciatively. That stir-fry looks delicious and smells just the same. ]
Really? You don't mind? Dude, I owe you one.
no subject
[He has an amused and fond smile on his face when he thinks about his commander. Once again he waves a hand, giving permission for Peter to enjoy. Kaidan gets a plate too so Peter won't feel like he's eating it all himself]
Don't mention it. We're all on the same team here.
no subject
True but it's still nice to meet people who look after each other. [ After that, Peter lets out a happy hum after tasting the dish. He came to make some sweets for Yelena but now Peter takes a mental note to cook a batch for Kaidan. That is the least he can do. ]
