[OPEN MINGLE] Movie Night, time to cry over pikachu.
CHARACTERS: Everyone!
LOCATION: The Mess Hall on the Ximilia
DATE: A day or so after the mission end.
CONTENT: Another post-mission movie night. Shocking, I know.
WARNINGS: None! Feel free to add warnings to any top levels or threads that need them.
Ah, yes. Another day, another questionable movie night. Or something like that.
Between getting weepy about leaving behind his beloved Cubits (as we all do, crying over our faux Pokémon seems like the hip thing to do-), Newt collects notes and prepares for another one of those silly little movie nights; he's started getting way too used to expecting them as part of his role or job or whatever. It's just. Y'know. Muscle memory, practically. He shifts through questionnaires and updates the birthday list, and prepares.

The Mess Hall is dressed up for the occasion as usual! With some added flair. Actually, the first thing that might instantly draw someone's eyes is the HAPPY BIRTHDAY sign accompanied by a few presents and some very, very distinct cakes. Wait, whose birthday was it recently? You'll have to check the birthday poster on the wall, silly. In this instance — Vash, Yzak, Hibiki, and Yujin are getting a little celebration here. Whenever they decide to arrive (which Newt will be more than happy to enforce, though he's pretty sure that won't be necessary), the candles get lit and the typical birthday song is sang by anyone who may know it.
Maybe he should make birthdays a common part of movie nights...
There's a little space to leave presents; don't worry, he'll give everyone but the four birthday kids a heads up that they're celebrating! Plenty of cake to go around, too — can you tell which one belongs to which person?

There is also a rack of mysterious clothes in the corner.
Turns out, they're all pajamas. Feel free to find some to lounge around in.
We deserve a little comfort, right?

And of course, movies are a must. Today offers two Sherlock Movies — an old live action, but also The Great Mouse Detective, which is a treat and a half (happy birthday, Yujin). They've also got Footloose (happy not-birthday, Peter), and... Pokémon the First Movie, the last being for some delayed lessons in alternate universe Cubits. Newt will be more than happy to explain that these are his world's versions of the creatures they'd all come to love. In fact, some of the Pokémon have features of Cubits, don't they?
Weird!

It starts with Pikachu's Vacation, don't worry.
The sad Pikachu meme can show up later.
Accompanying this Pokémon-themed area is an assortment of board games, all centered around Cubits instead of Pokemon. Thanks to the lovely Miss Clarke, they have some enjoyable card games and board games from Ankata to enjoy, so that you can always remember the strange, strange trainer culture and all the critters that partake in it.
Food, though! Food's important. The usual drinks are available, but it also looks like Newt had taken some of those questionnaire answers to heart. Big pots of posole and Chinese daikon and carrot stew sit beside sukiyaki. Main courses, set alongside little birthday goodie bags with an assortment of candy that people had written down as their favorites. Again, Newt's silly school activity form is one hell of a tool to collect data.

Among the candies are: plum candy, botan rice candy, Gear Shifts, starbursts, sour candies (yellow balls), candied bofa fruit, bonbons, yuzushu hard candy, Swedish fish, lollipops, and chocolates.
Hopefully it's enough to feel refreshed; their next mission really isn't that far off, is it?
Best get some R&R wherever you can.

YESSS
[ His joking tone dips unnervingly close to sincerely curious, but only for a moment. He settles in closer, sketchbook in hand to doodle out the initial design. After a few halting moments, he looks back up to the girl. ]
Okay, super important question: earth or sky?

( People you care about, leaving marks that you can see. Kind of comforting when they're not around.
It takes a moment for her to think on this, as if it's a far more serious question: she rends earth, yes, but the wild hunt descends from the skies, and they're not done with her, ergo: )
Earth.

There. [ It nearly two painful hours later that Sean pulls back the needle from The shoulder blade, breathing out a cool stream of air. He was sweating it on those last few strokes of the needle. ] You can pull up your shirt in a sec, I just gotta put on the cream the medical guy made.
[ He hands her the mirror to take a look, narrating his design choices with the kind of stream of consciousness ramble that only someone equal parts high and artistically inspired could achieve. ]
I figure we could all use some good luck around here, so. It's a cat skull. [ He squirts some cream into his hand, stifling an immature laugh at the rude noise it makes. Brownies, what ya gonna do? ] They've got nine lives, so. That's gotta be some kinda lucky. Plus, it just looks cool.
[ Ciri will feel the cream go on cold but quick, Sean too high to feel as awkward about touching her bare shoulder as he might've without the herbal courage. ]
The flowers are cherry blossoms, like... for spring. And I think they mean good luck, too? [ In anime. ] But I guess they're mostly there to look cool, too.

She listens, because even if it doesn't strictly make sense, and falls on the side of scholarly type nerdery in her experience (scholars, monsters, there's a certain trend for where she's seen nerdery), it's still interesting. Every suppressed twitch, every sharper inhalation through the whole two hours, she's kept still: pain with purpose.
She smiles, hearing that explanation. )
We can all use luck, you're right. A cat skull...
( A short huff of laughter, breathing out. )
My grandmother used to call me her lion cub. Haven't heard of cherry blossoms, but they sound nice. Look nice too.
( She hands back the mirror, flinching under the cold cream almost ridiculously, considering how steady she'd held before. Ciri doesn't remark on it. Simply waits until the cream's all there, shrugging gingerly back into her shirt for proper coverage once it is, eventually. )
You can just think up something like that, so fast? It's... that's incredible. All the artists I knew before here were the kinds who did flattering portraits or worked on murals for important historical events. ( #courtlyfe ) This is so different!
( A pause, then the smile and nod of her head. )
Thank you!
