[OPEN] MISSION 3.1 | Dream a Little Dream of Me
CHARACTERS: Newton Geiszler and YOU!
LOCATION: Newt's Dreamscape / Memories
DATE: During Mission 3: The Sleeper
CONTENT: Newton's fallen into a deep sleep; in this log are multiple memory prompts people may venture into, to be updated as they're completed!
WARNINGS: Basic warnings include: possible violence/blood, monster imagery, domestic and emotional abuse (including a toxic relationship memory), and removal of bodily autonomy.
[OOC NOTES: If you would like to have multuple memories (i.e. one memory segways into another), feel free to let me know via PM, through the subject line, or at my plurk,
simpledog! If none of these speak to you in particular, feel free to post a top level with 'WILDCARD' as the subject line, and I'll whip up a randomized memory not on this list. ;)
ALSO — feel free to have your character interject anywhere in the “‘memory”, they absolutely don’t have to wait until the dream prompt is over and can change the flow of the dream at any point they’d like; I just write a lot for each prompt to give lots of meat for ya.]

And I guess it's good that you like music if it helps you remember things better. [ And sure, this put a lot into perspective: Newton blasting his music as he works, pissing off half the station with his newly acquired guitar. Will that lessen the chances of Yzak shrieking SHUT UP in the future? Hell no! :') But at least he understands it a little better.
He looks down at the toy he picked up on the way in, and gives it a toss to Newton. ]
You certainly seem the type to enjoy big, dangerous-looking beasts like dinosaurs. Sure, I like them. I enjoyed learning about them back when I was in in school, anyway. And some of things I like to read - myths and folklore - some of them were inspired by them, too.
no subject
Music is the best! It goes with all things. Sometimes places are too quiet. I don't like when it's too quiet.
[It's hard to put into words when you're a genius seven-year-old, but silence for some is just a jumping board for unpleasant thoughts and nervous feelings — focusing on the sounds of the guitar, or the DA-DA-DOOM of a drumset, that's where it's at...! But then Yzak drifts to his other favorite thing, and he grins wide again.]
Dinosaurs, yes! And King Kong! But not all beasts are dangerous, yes? Just dangerous because we are small, like mouses to them. Hadrosaurids are herbivores, they just want to eat the leaves and grasses. They don't want any trouble. Diplodocids, also! They only have teeth in the front — not like me — [He pokes his finger through the hole where his two front teeth are missing cheekily.] They perform unilateral branch stripping, then use gastroliths to break down fibers of the plants. Not so dangerous, you know? Just easy to step on small organisms...
[Absolutely normal verbage for a boy who got money from Die Zahnfee for his two central incisors.]

[ Look, Newton's a kid here, he doesn't need to hear about, you know, ]
But you've clearly done your research on a lot of them, to know facts like that off the top of your head. You'd ... probably enjoy hearing about the fossil of a creature my people discovered in space.
no subject
[He says it like a boy who is being honest — he motherfucking loves fossils — but he also seems to be a little confused by something in particular.]
Your people — in space?
[Ah, yes. This is where things begin to disentangle.]
no subject
I live close enough to it, though. Just within its orbit on one of many space colonies we have built there.
no subject
[He crawls over his guitar to scoot closer, as if he can tell whether Yzak's being genuine or not by a few feet.]
You live in space? You mean this?!
I don't believe you; people don't have colonies in outer space!
[... But, ah. Something about Yzak... does remind him of space. He looks a little confused where he's sitting for a moment, blinking owlishly.]
Is your colony called Ximilia?
no subject
My home is on PLANT, but, [ But ... it makes sense, he guesses, if their time together on the station is bleeding into these dreams. ] yes, right now I'm currently taking care of business on the Ximilia.
no subject
I know it. I was doing — business, too.
[He sits there for a long moment, looking a little torn. He pulls his legs up close to him, tucking his chin away behind them like those knobby knees are a fortress to hide behind.]
Wait — but.
[He hesitates, big hazel eyes darting away nervously behind his thick spectacles.]
... I don't want to go back to the Ximilia.
no subject
[ Yzak can maybe understand if it's because in this memory he's here, in a place he loved to go as a kid with family members that he clearly also loved. But... ]
Why not?
no subject
Because, it's... scary. I'm going to get hurt a lot... and — see people I like get hurt. And there's... th-there's going to be something wrong with me. Something bad. And I'm going to have nightmares, and dad won't be there to tell me I'm going to be o—okay.
[Big, fat tears well up in his eyes, dripping down a splotchy, freckled face.]
I just want to always be okay. What if I won't be...?
no subject
As nice as that'd be, nobody is always okay.
It fucking sucks when somebody you care about gets hurt, that's something you can't help. I don't like seeing it, or experiencing it, either. But that's why being part of a team is so important, so nobody is always taking it all on or dealing with it by themselves. And being that way together, it's not fun, but it's kind of okay. Because at least then it's not just you alone.
... or something like that. Ugh, I'm not really good at this, but you get what I mean, right?
no subject
You said fuck.
[That's a bad word, he knows because he sings English songs for fun and gets lectured for repeating the lyrics plenty. But he does listen very carefully; you get the feeling that even though he's always wriggling and doesn't linger well on things, he hears it all. He hears each word and assesses with rapid-fire focus.]
You can promise me?
That I won't be alone?
no subject
[ Even if it was just repeated. But Yzak's not saying that with any judgment in his voice, rather a hint of snark that implies he won't rat him out for it. It's cool bro uncle Yzak will let all of the children curse. ]
I feel more confident in promising you that much, if not everything else.
As long as you remember that not being alone isn't always just a physical state of being.
no subject
Okay.
[He bites his lip, looking over to Yzak with a sheepish little frown.]
... I'm not supposed to stay here, am I?
no subject
We're extremely busy trying to accomplish the mission we're on - and this place is somewhat of a distraction to that goal. We're working on stopping these distractions, because we need both the help of yourself and the others in this same situation in order to achieve it.
But at least you've had some time to enjoy it.
no subject
... Okay. Um. Then we should go.
[He slides himself onto his feet from the couch, unsure just what he needs to do. He smooths out his rumpled button-up shirt, fixes an inside-out pocket, and moves to place a khaki fishing hat from the coffee table on his unruly hair.]
Do I look okay? For the trip?
[He looks a little muddy, but it's maybe okay. Mud's just mud, it washes out.]
no subject
[ You little but endearing walking GERM. ]
But you look fine. I don't think how you look is really going to matter.
no subject
Then he spits on them before rubbing them on the back of his pants, as if that's a viable solution. It does remove some of the dirt! Or rather redistributes it to the back of his shorts!]
'Kay, I'm ready...! Let's go find everyone else.
[He considers going through the door, and even moves to go do exactly that, but he hesitates before his hand lands on the doorknob.]
Oh, um.
... Can I bring my Basilosaurus doll with me? For safety?
no subject
He moves to step toward Newton and the door as well. ]
Sure. You can bring whatever you want.
But I'm also going, so I'll make sure the doll is doing its job.
[ Read: Yzak is also there. For safety. ]
no subject
But Newton hugs the toothed beast to his chest with determination, stepping up beside Yzak and reaching out to take his hand. There's no tremble to his hand, but maybe that's because he doesn't know just what awful thing could be behind this door.]
Okay! I'm ready!
no subject
He hides the briefest of grimaces at that, and then he gives the plush a look, because that thing is pretty hideous.
But in the end this is a scared little kid holding his hand, given assurance that he'll be safe. ]
Let's go, then.
[ And he intends to follow through with that. So with a nod down at him, Yzak clasps his hand back and opens the door. ]
