[OPEN] An OTA for any post-mission threads! And Movie Night.
CHARACTERS: The crew!
LOCATION: The Mess Hall
DATE: After the mission / Movie Night, the day after the mission!
CONTENT: Feel free to use this log as somewhere to play out closed starters or what-have-you for any post-mission needs! There is also a movie night (sorta) in which the crew can contribute to it, as Newton is going to be out sick for this one.
WARNINGS: Nothing severe! But mark your comments if needed.
Upon returning from the mission, things need to take a real breather, huh? Not only have some of their folks returned home recently, but the witnessing of two crews getting gobbled up by pissed off dragons is also a thing. Not that a lot of the crew would probably contest the outcome wasn't somewhat deserved β caging living creatures to steal away from their families would definitely fall under 'stupid games, stupid prizes' that Americans love to say. Or whoever invented that (it was definitely not Tom Clancy, despite what some people say).
Anyway, everyone's back to mingling into the station, tired and victorious and maybe a little put-out by the overall murder and maiming. Business as usual, right?
So, Newt does what he usually does! Attempt to set up the mess hall for another typical movie night.
Only, he has fallen actually sick.
So the movie night is gonna have to rely solely on the crew, this go-around.
Upon entering the mess hall, many will find the usual things half-heartedly strewn about: the movie projector with the DVD player, sitting unused on one of the tables. The white cloth used to project on, half-hung and abandoned, looking like the world's worst sheet ghost on Halloween. Stacked dinner and snack plates with nothing on them are still in the kitchen, not yet moved around. In fact, the only thing that seems to have been fully supplied is a pile of pillows and blankets on the floor and one bag of 5 lbs., unopened sour patch kids on a chair.
Newt, it seems, has been put down for the day with his pirate-world-flu. Pirate Flu?
(It's not scurvy.)
Anyone stopping in will have to fend for themselves and provide any movies, music, food or additional goodies for this movie night, while Newton Geiszler is forced into bedrest by Chishiya and Yujin (who have the patience of saints in this situation).
Leave a comment HERE to let us know, so people can include the goods in any top levels.

FOOD, MOVIES, AND/OR OTHER GOODIES FOR THE MOVIE NIGHT

PB&J sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches, and egg salad sandwiches.
... Some grilled cheeses might be a little burnt on the edges.

Seeing everything halfassed and sad looking though will mean Yzak will do a lot of the setup. Fixing that projection cloth, spreading out the blankets and pillows. Tsunderes himself through that like "jeez the guy couldn't even hang this up right," and "I guess I'LL have to fix this" since clearly he can and he can do it PERFECTLY. His cranky lil hissy cat grousings as he works but really it's clearly a LABOR OF LOVE FOR HIS FAVE LIL SICK GUY. Making sure his night is properly set up. (people are free to help here and Yzak will absolutely take it upon himself to be like NO SET THAT UP THERE! THAT STREAMER ISN'T STRAIGHT ENOUGH (but neither is he, so,) FIX IT!! etc)
Also he'll bring some tea and maybe when he cooks for HIMSELF (something like a light, warm, healthy stew) he'll make A LITTLE EXTRA!! HE GUESSES!!
Maybe he'll even share some of the white choco stash he brings.
Maybe.

Sheβs also making Jell-O shots.

You guys can pick the feature, he's trying to Nyquil-drug a guy with 6 doctorates.

Sickly Newton Geiszler | OTA
Anyways, back to preparing things.
Newt collects blankets, drags out the usual equipment needed after a mission, and starts getting the Mess Hall ready for the typical Movie Night. It's kind of just his job now, you know? It feels like if he missed doing it, it would be a curse on the station. Like, total 'a curse be upon ye' kind of curse.
But as he wanders around the station to do his usual thing, he looks pretty flushed. The occasional cough or sneeze ricochets off the metal walls and travels easily down the halls of the Ximilia, and anyone who investigates the sound will find Newton carrying around plates in the kitchen, or blankets from the communal area, or pushing tables around to make the proper arrangements in the mess hall. Not to be dramatic, but he definitely looks like you could cook an egg on his forehead, with how sweaty and hot he's become.
Newt is, indeed, sick. For real for real, for the first time since... he doesn't even wanna remember.
And like past times, he is stubbornly pretending it is totally not happening.
Eventually, Newton gets forced to return to his room, where he is going to be on bedrest for the next week. If anyone dare visit, they will find this pathetic little guy bunched up with blankets, surrounded by mountains of treacherously teetering handkerchief piles, and playing some random movie on his own portable DVD player. But sometimes if you're quick enough, you'll find him trying to sneak back out into the lab to work on his notations, or shuffling into the sunlight room to go collapse into some grass and lay there like a half-chewed piece of jerky. Feel free to prod him and make sure he's alive out there.
Sometime during his sick break, he sends a text to the network:]
TEXT | UN: Newt
I'm BORED!
Someone do something about it.
Or I'll kick my feet and cry. π

So that only means one thing is happening here.
Newton will hear the clack clack clack of boots making its way down the hall, growing louder and closer. Quick, with purpose, ominous.
The door swings open.
Yzak is framed in the doorway, face pinched into a scowl, prosthetic arm out, finger pointing accusatory; Newton's own creation turned against him! ]
You bastard! You ARE sick!!

Ziggy | Fear Street | OTA in the kitchen during movie night
But some of that has eased up a little, being around decent people who don't let her hole up in her room and drown everyone out in favor of being an unresolved mess of a person. So! When that weirdo punk nerd gets sick, she finally decides to offer some of her help for the stupid movie sleepover cause.
Her way of helping? Making sandwiches.
Anyone popping in will hear her curse, louder than the sizzle-pop of grease in a pan, as she urgently moves a slightly burnt grilled cheese from the oven to a plate of other slightly-burnt grilled cheeses. She's got eggs bubbling away in a pot on the stove, to be turned into egg salad sandwiches, and half-eaten tubs of peanut butter and jelly on the other side of the counter.
She's either chaotically working on a new grilled cheese, running water over a grease burn on the back of her hand, or far more peacefully cobbling together PB&Js, taking scoops of peanut butter and eating as she goes.
At one point, if other company agrees to join in, she finds herself reminiscing out loud:]
I had to learn how to cook more after dad left, and it was pretty much always sandwiches. I'm starting to wish I'd learned how to make desserts, though; pie, brownies, those little lemon tart things Mom used to make when I was really little β making eggs and sandwiches kind of feels pretty uncool in comparison to sweets, now that I think about it.

after they've exchanged a few words and he's settled in with his own knife and bread, the jars placed in-between them for better access, he's listening intently, nodding in acknowledgment here or there.]
Sandwiches and eggs are perfectly acceptable as snacks. [he gestures one hand toward their still growing stacks of the formerly mentioned item, flashes a full-on grin then continues,] And we'll have more than enough to feed everyone at this rate. However, if it's desserts you would like to make, I could help you out there; I've recreated things we've seen while on missions and I know some from my homeworld that I could share.

for the baguette man (ryunosuke)
And when he does go in, all seems to be in perfect working order at the start. It's a touch of homesickness that brings him here today - homesickness and a block of free time as he's gotten through his usual routine faster than he usually does. And when he considers heading back to his room, he thinks about the fact that he doesn't like being in his room on the Ximilia if he doesn't have to be. It makes a particular constant, sitting loneliness in his heart feel that much more prominent. So instead, he figures, he'll take a break in his room back home instead.
Yzak lives in a big, bougie-looking two floor mansion. Huge windows with beautiful views (of the city in the distance, a thin orbital elevator in the center that moves upward toward the center of this half of the hourglass-shaped colony his people live on - the sky looks natural and blue at a glance, too, but upon a closer look one can see the plating that the space colony is made out of, faded behind it), high walls, lushly furnished and clean rooms. Spotless carpets, vases with flowers and full bookshelves. Though on the counters the photographs, if one happens to note them, seem to say that only two people live here. Yzak, and a woman who he looks so much like that it can only be his mother.
Yzak pulls in a slow breath when the scene constructs itself around him, nostalgia wrapping around him like a warm, comforting blanket. It's been so long since he's actually been here, and he wonders when he will again.
This is the scene that greets Ryunosuke when he enters the simulation room for whatever his reason for coming is. He can poke around as he pleases, as it's peaceful and quiet andβ ]
What - what - WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?
[ Oh nevermind.
Yzak's voice comes from the first room on the right. Followed by a computerized feminine voice that says "it's good to see you again." He steps out of the room with a quick urgency, and in front of him a hologram of a young blond woman in a maid outfit sparks to life and asks "do you require something to drink?" He skids to a stop, bristles up and yells. ]
I didn't program these things into this!! What's going on!?
[ He makes a sharp turn to the right. Another of the same hologram appears, only brown-haired now, and says, "you've been gone all day, do you want to rest?"
There are three of these hologram maids speaking to him like this, disappearing and reappearing in whatever direction Yzak is trying to head in order to escape them. The exasperated look in his blue eyes says that this is something familiar, something he's dealt with before. ]
Go away!! Stupid things!

So he comes to the movie night, not to find comfort, but to kill some time while they wait for their next mission. He's fixed himself a plate of spicy mac and cheese with various kinds of candy sprinkled on top. No, he doesn't know what these foods are, but the flavour combination doesn't seem to bother him as he absentmindedly chews his meal while examining the movie options.]
Hey, it's not all just old people shows, right? [What was that one called again...] Like Jurassic Park?

the handful of sour patch kids he has is dwindling, so he makes a brief detour for peanut butter cups, then he beelines toward anakin, expression initially brightened with excitement, though he softens following the question, humming in thought before lifting his left shoulder in a half-shrug.]
Unfortunately, I cannot say. None of these sound familiar to me. [however, once sizhui learns what jurassic park is, he's going to feel some kind of way.] But I'm not against watching them to find out.

Phoenix Wright // Ace Attorney
[ Although Phoenix is new enough he's only been to one of these, he's gathered that it's a regular thing. So he arrives to the Mess Hall. Unlike last time, though, there's not a movie already on.
Lips pursed in thought, he grabs a Reese's peanut butter cup, then goes over to what looks like a meager collection of DVD's. And he finds the Sherlock Holmes movies Yujin provided, picking one up with a sort of puzzled frown. ]
'Sherlock Holmes'? Do they mean Herlock?
[ Once he's done being confused about the name, he's putting one on. A story he doesn't recognise, so that he can get the chance to do some case solving. Flex those muscles. ]
B. Post movie night
[ Just like Newt, someone else is refusing to admit he's sick, though he's not so badly off that he couldn't throw a movie night if he wanted to. It does mean, however, that one late morning he's in the kitchen whipping up some breakfast and a cup of coffee, sniffling and occasionally coughing.
Don't worry, he'll get himself a mask soon. ]
no subject
I assume they mean whatever name is printed on the little box there.
[Arctic is just on his way to the kitchen. He isn't here to socialize... But that doesn't mean he can't take time to be a total prick en route. After a short pause, he actually leans a little closer, too, stretching his long neck out to squint at the DVD box.]

So apparently that's changing now.
Harley would be proud, if she were here. It might be some kind of feeling related to that fact that provokes her to respond to the statement. Could it be loneliness?]
Yeah, uh... I have no idea what that means, but I can say that the science in this movie is like... wildly unrealistic. So if you're getting ideas about DNA from it, maybe don't.
