Open Catch All!
CHARACTERS: A Wrench, and YOU.
LOCATION: A room, perhaps yours. Also: Kitchens, Common Room, Labs, Sunlight Room, Random Hallways.
DATE: Throughout April (possibly into May?)
CONTENT: Right now he's just getting used to the station. Flirting with the cleaning bot. Being sad in the kitchen late at night and being nosy about what someone's working on in the labs. Pretty basic stuff. Some serious starters, some more fun, some in-betweeners. They ain't works of art so feel free to interpret how you may.
WARNINGS: Super brief mention of drugs and alcohol. Probably talk about Politics, lbr. Outside of that, notta yet unless you count him and dean being stupid as hell as a warning. I'm not judging.
Arrival - Is he in the right room? Is he your roommate?
Kitchen - burning mac & cheese; later seeking drinks to calm a spinning mind

Then again, a guy can't just decide when he's having a panic attack (or whatever it is this guy's dealing with). Jim gets it. Even being used to deep space, this is all a bit overwhelming. ]
Run, [ he answers, looking down at himself, then watching the stranger again. The mask is a weird choice, but sure. Whatever works for him. ] Alcoholic, I take it?
[ He gestures to a cupboard a little more to the side, then heads there to dig out a bottle that was sort of hidden behind other things. ]
Do me a favor and don't drink it all. Precious commodity, around here.

He nodded and stepped back to allow Jim some room. Ooh, nice. ] Nice. That's some good stuff, man. [ Wrench searched a little bit for some glasses and pulled out two. Turned back to the other guy. ] Shouldn't waste it all on my own then, huh? You wanna join me?

Uh... [ He looks down at himself at the question. ] Should probably shower and change first, butβ sure, why not.
[ And alcohol right after a run probably isn't the smartest choice, but whatever. ]

[ It was the little things that mattered most sometimes. That aside. Good.... choices, what were good choices? Don't know em! He shrugged and poured a perfect two fingers for both. ] Should.
Take one for the road, then. Unless it's really buggin' ya. [ And hopped up to sit on the counter because sitting where you should was for SQUARES. ] You do you, dude. I'll be here, probably. But if its for my consideration I can tell you I've smelled worse by a large margin.

[ Sure, because nicking whiskey is all about generosity. Anyway, he takes one of the glasses for himself, ignoring both of those suggestions and pulling up a chair to take a seat. ]
Delightful thought, thanks for sharing that. [ He's just pluck at his own shirt, you know. Make sure he doesn't actually smell. Then he nods to Wrench. ] I'm Jim Kirk. You're new here, too?
no subject
Wrench let out a short laugh as Jim made his own choice. Well wasn't that good to note. Bit of a rebel are you, Kirk? He could relate to that. Potentially obviously. (Also, you're fine Jim. Smell wise.) ]
Wrench. [ It's calmer after the first sip. ] Pretty new, yeah. Honestly? Thought it was a dream at first. [ Mm. Damn, Jim. This whiskey was really something. ] Space travel isn't this advanced where I come from. We're too focused on controlling the world we live in now and it's people. [ NOT like he's bitter or anything. ]
But hey, [ genuine. ] thanks for this, man. Not too often I get to drink something this nice.

Think that's probably true for most of us, [ He agrees. He definitely wondered if it wasn't a dream at first, especially when he woke up in a room not too different from the one where he was before. ]
Not sure I can get more anytime soon, so you better enjoy it while you can. [ No doubt they'll find other types of alcohol during their missions, though. Jim's got a feeling they'll need it. ] Space travel is pretty normal where I'm from. Earth is one of the about hundred and fifty planets that are part of the United Federation of Planets.

For now, though? Wrench stared down at the amber liquid partially mesmerized by the gentle swirl of it. He was so in his head and likely not the best company even if the company was appreciated. The talk about dreams. Mm, made him wonder if the nonsense he said was really his biggest regret.
Oh, that pulled him out of his head. The words United Federation of Planets. Felt like bait but his head lifted to pay attention to Jim anyway. ] An intergalactic government, huh? Sounds dangerous.
no subject
It does? Why?
[ Genuinely, to him it puzzled him why anyone would immediately leap into 'dangerous' when hearing something like that. ]
no subject
It's quieter, and much more serious: ] I've never met a Government that actually held the people's welfare as priority, dude. I'd love to believe that somewhere out there was one that did, but I can't. An intergalactic Government? How many people does that oppress; how many people do they paint as enemies to conquer or destroy? Lives they can "make better" by making them assimilate?
no subject
So he waits, listens, and then after thinking carefully, speaks. ]
The United Federation of Planets was established in 2161, one hundred years ago for me. It was founded on the principles of liberty, peace, equality, justice and progress. The greatest purpose of the Federation was, and remains to this day, furthering the universal rights of all life. We exchange knowledge, resources, we cooperate, we work together, we stand together. I'm not going to tell you that it's all wonderful and without flaws, because it isn't, and unfortunately, we do still need to have the means to defend ourselves against factions external to the Federation. But everyone who's a Federation citizen lives a life of freedom, in every possible sense of the word.
[ He sets his glass down, another pause to weigh his words. ]
I am sorry to hear that you've had such poor experiences. But that doesn't mean there are no other realities out there.
