i. Kitchen
[It's, of course, the kitchen where Chuuta can be found most of the time. There's a scratch down the left side of his face, from right by his ear to his jaw, and it's probably going to scar even though he's keeping it bandaged up, but he doesn't have any other injuries, there's nothing to keep him from cooking.

So he's cooking. It's probably a good thing after a mission, to come in to the kitchen and find food in the fridge ready to be reheated and eaten, or muffins neatly arranged on a tray to take, or something like fried chicken freshly made and hot. There's enough for everyone. More than enough, really. And if Chuuta's in the kitchen at odd times, in the middle of the night sometimes, or at five in the morning, well, that's just how things are.

He's a little more withdrawn than usual, giving a friendly smile and a hello when people walk in, or pointing out something he's just made to make sure people get a chance to try it, but he's not really striking up conversation, and he seems pretty quick to go back to working and listening to the music he has playing through the mp3 player and earbuds he brought from home.]

ii. Generally Around
[He can't keep cooking forever. Not because he can't, but because there is kind of a limit on supplies and even though he's making enough food for everyone, it would be pretty terrible if he burned through everything. So long before that happens, he leaves the kitchen. He's just sort of around, hanging out and working on a crochet project (it's a scarf, something lightweight and red and getting very long). He might be in the sunlight room, or the living area, the sunlight room, or the Ximusic room. He's just around, out of the way, absorbed in what he's doing, not striking up any conversation or causing any problems, just hanging out in the vicinity of other people]

I don't really know a lot about music, [says the guy who listens to music basically any time he's not talking to someone.] but I'll do my best.

Great. [He smiles at him once more and then lifts the dizi to play. The first melody he plays is playful and soft, rising and falling on sweet notes that never quite rise high enough to become something more vibrant.

In contrast, the second melody he plays is less polished and more sweeping, dynamic shifts that create a sense of something important being conveyed.

When he lowers the dizi, he lets out an amused sigh.]

I know the first one is better, but there's just something in the second I can't quite let go of.

[Chuuta is taking this seriously, a slight frown forming on his face as he listens.]

I think... [he says, after a moment.] The first one is forgettable. The second one sounds like it means something.

[He lets out a loud laugh at Chuuta's blunt assessment and nods his head, apparently pleased.]

It is forgettable, isn't it? Alright, well I guess that solves that then! [He beams.]

And you said you don't know a lot about music. Have you ever played anything?

No, [He says, and shakes his head.] I've never wanted to. I usually just listen. It sounds like you've been playing for a while, you're really good.

I'm alright. [He responds, dismissively but not rude. He think he's alright honestly, but the dizi isn't so hard to play. It certainly wasn't as highly regarded as the guqin or xiao.]

I have been playing for several years now though. [He grins.]

What kind of music do you like listening to then?

[asymbiotic]

Just... whatever's on the radio, I guess. I'm not really picky. [He doesn't listen to music because he likes music.]

[singlelogbridge]

Not picky! [He stands and shakes his head, crossing his arms over his chest.]

That can't be true. You must have a favorite type of music, or a least favorite!

Come over here. [And he's just gonna...tug Chuuta over to a bench where they can sit together. He gets quiet after that, or well. He mutters under his breath to himself but doesn't speak for a moment. Eventually though, Chuuta will get a song sent directly to his ear piece.]

I want you to listen to this and tell me what you think after.

[He makes it maybe a minute and a half in before he yanks the ear piece out, hands shaking slightly. Cursing my name, wishing I stayed.

He doesn't look at Wei Wuxian.]

She has a nice voice. [He manages, after a second. Chuuta's voice, on the other hand, just sounds strained.]

That's not the kind of music I usually listen to.

[Ahhh...well. Oops. His eyes intentionally don't follow Chuuta's shaking hands, and he makes a show of hemming and hawwing with a hand at his chin as if he didn't just accidentally stumble on a crack in Chuuta's well kept façade.]

Hmm alright, how about this one then? [He is betting on Chuuta not having any Shake it Off related trauma. If he does, Wei Wuxian is giving up.]

It's a fun one, isn't it?

[By the time the song is done he's smiling again, any possible Shake It Off related trauma hidden for now.]

That's more like what I usually listen to.

I'll send you more of her music then. Gwen introduced me to it. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first but I'll admit I've become a fan. [Ancient Chinese Swiftie? More likely than you think. Taylor just understands his soul, okay?]

Maybe a few others too. No musical education is complete without Britney, or so I hear. [Shout out once again to Gwen.]
