MINGLE | The "Everyone's Tired and Hungry" Post-Mission Pizza Party

CHARACTERS: Everyone! A free-for-all general chill-out time, thrown haphazardly together by a mad scientist.
LOCATION: The Mess Hall
DATE: Sometime after the mission. Y'all know.
CONTENT: The Orb Crew tries to relax for a hot goddamn minute.
WARNINGS: Likely drinking or drunkenness, the usual party antics. Very mildly image heavy, NSFW for naughty threads, properly marked.

It seems the party has been properly set up for you all! But of course, there's an exuberant amount of 'Newton*' flair added to it, and people can find all sorts of random things — markers for drawing on the pizza boxes (which he distinctly requested, super important) cover the tables, and it's clear by the one designed like a Pikachu and a dinosaur that he's already began scribbling on them. He's also made... board games literally comprised of pizza boxes as well, including Chess and Connect Four, which is lovingly set up side-by-side on a table and done with intent to annoy.

They've got one deck of cards for games, no chips; you'll have to just make some of your own out of pizza box cardboard. The most grand of all creation appears to be a normal-sized Skeeball table, made of flimsy material, with oranges for balls. It may or may not last the night, but it sure works for now!

There's a very strong bottle of liquor from their last mission open for everyone, and, well, it will get you drunk quite fast if you're not careful. But it's also a Bring Your Own Beer situation; hope you guys asked Viv for some to plan for the party!

Lastly, there's classic bar rock playing from an iPhone rigged to a speaker that looks very very cobbled together, from loose bits and bobs from the lab's many boxes. If you go fiddle with that phone's playlist, you may be able to find a small collection of songs that aren't rock, but are likely from the 90's or early 2000's.

And yes, there is a couch with a sign on it, designated specifically for people who wish to nap. If they'd like. Don't be rude, let people lay down when they're sleepy. (Maybe Newton just put that there for him, honestly.) There are 50 pizzas total, which is practically a whole-ass pizza per person, so enjoy! (And thanks, Viv!)

Feel free to bring your own flair to the party, if you'd like.

These are just a few things for a m b i e n c e.

(*If you mention him, he will appear like a terrible omen.)

There's a lot that Syrlya just said that leaves him completely clueless. Some things can be understood through context, but most of this needs a little more clarification for him to really get it.

"So the Asura, they're a different race? Or part of a different race? What's their 'gate system'?" He'll start there, that's the biggest gap in his understanding.

Syrlya nods. "Asura are one of the other races of Tyria. The gates are a teleportation system they own. Sort of like the one we use."

But also not a lot like it at all. But Rosinante's world doesn't have magic (supposedly) so that's probably a better frame of reference and portal spells.

"So many wondrous things these other worlds have," he says, though he's well aware that plenty of elements in his own must seem fantastical to the rest. They keep pointing out his height, after all, and that's completely mundane compared to a lot of other things he can think of, so if that's what fascinates them then what else might there be that they'd find truly unusual?

"I've lost track of how many we've done now," he says, looking into his woefully still rather full glass, then smiles slyly. "But I'll give you at least one more. I can't swim."

That ought to keep him second-guessing himself until he picks an answer.

Slowly, Syrlya narrows his eyes. This definitely sounds like a trick question. There's no way that Rosinante can he a sailor without knowing how to swim... but this would be the third false statement he's made. Is he really going through the game seeing when Syrlya stops believing what he says? He has a 50/50 chance and yet he couldn't be less confident.

"... False."

"I'm really going to have to find some other way to catch up, huh?" he says with a laugh. "No, I really can't swim. It's something that goes wrong when the devil fruit edits your lineage factor. Anyone who's eaten one gets all their strength drained right out of them when they contact still water, or a large body of water like a lake or ocean. That's why they got called devil fruit, supposedly. People used to think some sort of devil cursed you. Or took up residence in you, or the sea hated the devil that moved in and decided to get its revenge. All sorts of old myths nobody actually believes now."

A lot of old myths, and one unfortunate reality: unless you're in a fast-moving river (and there are other reasons to avoid those), no swimming. He shakes his head, still smiling, and twirls his still mostly-full glass back and forth on the table.

It was a trick question! Although, it opens up a lot more questions. "And it has been that way... most of your life? Why then did you choose to go into sailing?"

"My world's mostly water. Everyone ends up learning to sail unless you're on a big enough island and happy to stay there," he says, which isn't quite true but it mostly is. Plenty of people rely on their neighbors or local fleets to get around, probably, but most people know the basics of how to trim sails and angle a rudder at the very least.

"But yeah, been that way most of my life since I ate the fruit as a kid. Since they're rare, you can usually figure most ships you're ever on will only have one or two like me, so if I go overboard, someone can be right there to help."

A completely hypothetical situation that has never happened because he's always very careful and graceful and would never fall off a ship. Not once.

"Can you still move once you hit the water, at least to grab onto a rope or something?" Being completely stunned makes more sense, admittedly, but all the more difficult to expect someone to save you.

"Depends on how much water there is, but no, not if it's open ocean. It hits you too fast and too hard. Now if it's just a bath tub, then yeah, I could probably crawl my way over the edge without help."

But for what are probably obvious reasons, he tends to prefer showers.
