[ Zelda isn't exactly interested in contemplating the vastness of space or what in the name of all that's unholy she'd been thinking when she'd agreed to this bargain. It's foolish, to believe they'll actually deliver on their promise, but what other choice does she have?

She can, however, be found in the common area often enough, usually wielding a lit cigarette. Oddly, the smoke doesn't seem to give off any particular odor. Nodding toward the book in his hands, she gives her cigarette holder a careless flick that, equally strangely, doesn't appear to drop any ash. ]

hello I am excited and also on vacation so my tags might be spotty but!!! !!!!

[ Yzak peeks over the top of his book when addressed, squinting in a way where he's clearly trying to put a name with a face. Or at the very least, a username on the network. But he comes up blank, even though by now he at least knows all of the faces on the station, including Zelda's. ]

As much as I can, anyway. [ It's never fun while recovering, but at least he can still move about just fine. ] Since who the hell knows when we'll have to head back out again.

[ She can't fault his lack of recognition. Zelda hasn't been the most social of creatures. She's done an excellent job of keeping to herself.

She also struggles to relate to his plight, having never had a period of recovery after illness or injury as far as she can recall. But she is well-acquainted with boredom. ]

A few weeks according to our helpful disembodied voice. [ She'll warm up to Viveca eventually. Probably. ] I confess, I've never excelled at sitting idle.

Neither have I.

[ He says it simply. Even now, while he's relaxing, recovering, he's still at least doing something that he enjoys rather than nothing at all. He gets driven way too mad otherwise. ]

Even during times at war where you're not actively on the front lines, you still rest with the underlying knowledge that you might just need to act immediately. That's why even though they said it'd be a few weeks, I plan to be fully recovered and prepared to head out if that happens to change.

[directrix]

[ Zelda wishes she could find something she could enjoy on this station, but she's still too tense, restless. She's slow to settle. ]

I wouldn't be surprised if it does.

[ She gives another short flick of her cigarette holder. ]

I'm having a hard time trusting what they say.

I wouldn't, either.

[ Maybe not strictly for the same reason - though it's not as though Yzak has full trust either. Still, Zelda's statement is enough for him to turn his attention fully toward her, slipping a bookmark into his book and placing it on his lap. ]

I'm not disagreeing with that. But I'm curious; why?

[directrix]

[ She spreads her hands slightly and gives a casual shrug. ]

I'm naturally skeptical.

[ Does she need a better reason? ]

The bargain they struck was one those we would call gods wouldn't have made.

[ And she thinks their mission briefings leave a lot to be desired. ]

[coordination]

Being a little skeptical is good. Even in the military I'm in - one has to assess every situation and decision being made by those around and higher on the ladder than you. Things haven't always turned out for the better, in those cases.

But we're still here despite the skepticality. So it's good, at least, to know that so many others aren't simply just going along with this without questioning things if something starts to look or sounds suspicious.

[directrix]

We're still here because we're useful to their purpose, questioning or not.

[ And for many of them, they hold a bargaining chip that makes it hard to walk away. She knows she would give or do almost anything asked of her if it truly meant undoing her regret and bringing Sabrina back. ]

[coordination]

We definitely are. But we have something we're aiming to accomplish, too.

So to that end, I don't mind continuing down this path. Unless something really fucked up happens to crop up to make me reconsider and alter course.

But despite the wariness, I'd like hope something like that doesn't happen.

[directrix]

We're trading on that hope to accomplish those goals. What will they lose if we fail?

[ She still isn't sure, and people with nothing to lose are dangerous. With a short sigh, her shoulders relax and she shrugs, bringing her cigarette back up to her lips. ]

If they keep their end of the bargain, they can do whatever they like.
