LOCATION: A holding room in Ximilia Station.
DATE: Est. two days post-mission, after the kaiju is defeated and the orb is retrieved.
CONTENT: The precursors are revealed — and are finally removed from Newt's mind.
WARNINGS: Possession and the bodily autonomy issues that come with that. More will be added if necessary!

Someone has to.

[Daisy says it dryly, as if that isn't the most hypocritical thing she's ever said. But she does feel that urge to protect him, regardless. Especially after seeing him be so vulnerable around her during the start of the mission.]

They all are, but I wouldn't have been fine if you hadn't come for me.

[She's not done thanking him for that. Probably won't be for a while.]

I haven't had anyone try in-- far longer than you've been alive.

[It is bitter-sweet, to be protected, to held at value. Not for what he can do, but for who he is when he's with her.]

I know. I know, and that fact will not be forgotten. Not by me any time soon. He almost killed you, Daisy.

[Daisy frowns at that and reaches for his hand again,]

I guess you’re just going to have to get used to it then.


[Lips pressing together when he brings up that Newt had almost killed her, Daisy shakes her head.]

That wasn’t him. It wasn’t his fault.

[She reminds him again, gently.]

Along with a million other strange things. Learning new things- I hear it's good for a person.

[Probably from one of the many books in the common room. The ones with big letters, making bold statements, on the cover. So many pages of words that ultimately were worthless. Love yourself, and love will come. Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope.

Rubbish.

But he let's her take his hand, stroking his thumb over the back of her pale hand.]

So you keep claiming.

[There were three possibilities, despite Daisy's adamant refusal to see any of them. Newton knew about the invaders and still joined the crew, hiding them and the damage they wanted to do, from everyone. Viveca and the commander knew about them, even if they never told anyone, and they let this happen - or, the calamity that struck them all, came from an alien race so powerful and so intelligent, that they managed to trick the station and the orb that fuelled all of this.

Neither of those were reassuring in the least.]

We will know more in the next few days, as everyone weighs in on the options available to us. He can't be allowed to walk free when he's a danger. To all of us.

[Daisy mumbles, trying to think if that was even the right way of saying that phrase.

The drugs are definitely hitting her now.

Eyes falling closed without her even realizing it, she exhales slowly at the feel of his thumb stroking the back of her hand. She doesn’t want him to go. She wants him to stay here, with her. Wants him to hold her.

Brows knitting together when he talks about everyone weighing in on what to do with Newt, she focuses on speaking again.]

The plan is to get it out?

[They can’t just leave him like that. She knows Newt is in there, somewhere.]

[If they can't... well. There's a solution to that, too. As he watches Daisy struggle to keep her eyes open, the slow dropping blink that follows a too-wide eyed look at him.]

Sleep. Get better, and we can talk about the rest of it tomorrow.

Don't do something stupid.

[She tries to sound firm, but it comes out in a murmur. Her hold on his hand loosens as she starts drifting off.]

[He watches until her breathing evens out, unti lher grip on his hand is slack with sleep and the crease between her brows has eased up, leaving her pale against the white sheets.

Only then, does he bend down, placing a small kiss to her forehead, whispering-]

Too late.

[And with that, he's gone, walking back out to the hallways of the station to find the sunlight room and solitude.]
