↠ MOVIES

[ It's time to relax after a (mostly) successful mission, and what better way to do that than to put on some comfortable clothes and watch a movie? The whole floor and almost every section of the common living areas have been covered in blankets and pillows. Walking around barefoot and lying down to rest is not only allowed but encouraged.

The movies that will be projected are: Indiana Jones- Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Die Hard, and Galaxy Quest. Peter had asked for the first two specifically, for Ziggy and Dean, while he had found the latter by pure chance and had no idea what it was about. It looked fun, and that was enough. ]


↠ FOOD AND JELLO SHOTS

[ No party is a party without food, and no movie night is complete without popcorn, both salty and sweet. If that's not your thing, there are many other options to choose from: chocolate chip cookies, different kinds of pizza, nachos with guacamole, and smores.

For the thirsty, instead, there are jello shots or all the color of the rainbow, beer, milkshakes, and daiquiris. ]


↠ GAMES AND MAKE UP

[ If someone just wants to be there for the company but doesn't find themselves too invested in the movies, they are free to play some harmless pranks on the people who might have fallen asleep, like drawing on their faces with crayons and sharpies. Because yes, there are crayons. Peter also brought here games like Cluedo, Jenga, Scrabble, a bottle to spin, and Trivial Pursuit. Some might have a few pieces missing, or ask totally incomprehensible questions about the universe or alien races no one has ever heard of before.

On one of the side tables, there's a makeup kit box with nail polish in different colors, including glitter. It also has different curling irons, eye shadow, lots of hair accessories, eyeliner, and lipstick. Braid your friend's hair, paint your nails (or theirs!) and practice your make-up skills. The sky is the limit, and looking like a clown is allowed. ].


↠ TAROT READING

[ Does Peter know the Tarot? Not at all. He just found a deck when he was checking the new stuff they got during a supply drop and snatched it. So he's mostly shuffling cards, and then coming up with random readings on the fly for fun. He's sitting cross-legged on the carpet, using a really giant pillow as a makeshift table and placing the cards there in no particular order.

The moment someone sits close or even looks at what he's doing, he's going to ask them to pick a card, then stare at it intensely as if he's looking for the answers to the secret of the universe, and announce in a solemn voice: ]

Okay, the cards say....uhm. [ He's holding The Tower and looking at it with slight concern. ] Well, things are exploding and on fire. Two people are throwing themselves down a building...this card is trying to say you shouldn't have protein bars for breakfast.

[ Correct him? Ask him for advice? Grab the cards from him...? Throw a pillow at Peter's head and steal the bowl of candy next to him? All options are good and valid, he won't even be mad if someone grabbed the cards. ]

↛ OF HOBNOBS AND YIPEE-KAY-YAY | A MIX OF MOVIES/FOOD AND JELLO SHOTS

[ Just this one evening, Hermann wanted to try getting himself involved in one of the crew’s festivities. The last one he took part in was, well, their first one in Gyeongje.

And he makes an honest-to-God effort to try, going so far as to arrive at the Common Area in his night attire with a very heavy jumper covering his torso. He tries not to bother anyone in their activities, leaving the chatter to themselves.

Now seated quietly in the far-off corner during the film screening of Die Hard, Hermann sits upright with seven jello shots on his plate.

All of which he is eating with a dessert spoon.

He chortles dryly to himself at all the bombastic American quips. He can’t quite see the hype, but it was rather nice to see what the fuss is about. ]

↛ AN ENGINEER'S PASSTIME | GAMES AND MAKEUP

[ Hermann had been familiar with the rules and regulations of this game. It was the sort of pastime he and a few colleagues from university would have a go to see who can make the riskiest manoeuvres without having the tower fall.

While he became more averse to taking risks in his later years in life, he felt comfortable enough to be a little saucy about plucking the wooden pieces out.

He nudges one piece from the second bottom room towards the right. There is a slight wobble, but it stays in place. ]

There we are! Still in one piece.

The whole rainbow, [ joe notices as he sits down again after retrieving a fistful of crayons, gesturing at hermann's collection of jello shots. he offers a smile as he spreads the crayons in front of him, neatly arranging them in rainbow order. he swaps a couple crayons around once or twice until he is satisfied. who knows why. ]

YIPEE-KAY-YAY

Dr. Gottlieb! How nice of you to join us tonight. [ Peter sounds sincere, not mocking, when he approaches Herman and plops down to sit next to him. He knows that the man is not big on socializing or anything that involves large gatherings, so he's happy to see him relaxing for a change. ] Having a party on your own?

[ Peter smiles, looking at the variety of jell-o shots and then up at Hermann. He doesn't have any drinks or jell-os with him, a shame because he could use one, but he's holding a bottle of purple glitter nail polish. ]

[ Raleigh's sitting cross legged on the other side, studying the tower, deciding on his next move. ]

You got steady hands, doc. I'll give you that.

[ Raleigh's are not so much, but he leans in, taps at a piece, and pokes it through. ]

[it feels so strange sometimes to be doing something as normal as playing games while on the station but it was nostalgic for her. there wasn't much of a selection on the ark, a lot of the games she had played when she was younger involved a lot of improvising and it felt like a lifetime ago to her so while she recognizes some games, there are a few she isn't familiar with either. she watches for a moment as hermann tries to maintain the tower he's built, carefully moving the pieces around but eventually she approaches and settles down across from him] I'm familiar with this game but I think I get the gist of it. You're trying to make sure it doesn't fall over right?

[ joe didn't really come for the movies, more for the murmur of people because he misses the noise of his family simply moving around in his space, so he isn't paying much attention to what is happening, occasionally looking up from where he is sketching to note what's happening on screen. ]

Oh I remember this movie now, [ joe murmurs during one of the more memorable scenes of indiana jones that i do not know because i haven't seen it so just trust me on this one guys. it's a memorable scene.

later, when galaxy quest is playing, joe peers at the screen again in mild confusion. ] I don't remember this part.

⇢ CRAFT TIME

[ generally, joe sits off to the side, sketching his fellow shipmates or the events of the previous mission or his frankly beautiful husband, god damn. every so often he will switch it up, charcoals exchanged for a set of crayons which he uses to recreate incredibly famous works of art in crayon form: starry night, girl with the pearl earring, les demoiselles d’avignon, the great wave off kanagawa, and the mosque, tunis. he seems genuinely happy just to be colouring.

seemingly on a whim, he'll hold out a picture to someone passing, either one that suits their vibe or an actual portrait of themselves, beautifully rendered in charcoal. ] For you.

[ On the recommendation that he stop being such a brooding shut-in, Drift had shown up to movie night in the flesh — so to speak. It was a bit of a fit to find a corner of the room to pile his nine-foot self into, but he made to and stayed out of the way. Only leaning closer to the group to comment or ask questions. ]

Did that man's face just melt off? [ If that was a memorable scene for the first installment, he worried about what the sequels held in store. ]

I believe the movie has changed or moved on to the next chapter. [ that's how movies work, right? like books with chapters.

xichen says this looking over at the man sitting near him and he offers a wry smile. he then glances back at the screen again. ] At least I believe that is the case.

I have not seen the tomb raider in a while but he may yet show up. [ so much has happened on the movie screen, how does anyone keep up with all the action? ]

[Clara's taken by surprise. Not just because she isn't used to people giving her drawings, but because he's one of the few people here she doesn't know and hasn't spoken to yet. So there's a smile on her face as she takes hold of the charcoal portrait of herself, seeming to be quite taken with the fact he took the time to do something for her.]

You managed to do this while watching a movie? I'm impressed.

[Harley's on her third, fourth, or fifth trip back to where the drinks are and only feeling the juice a little. She's missing a boot, but she's sure it's somewhere around the room and one of her suspenders is hanging down past her waist. Die Hard, Galaxy Quest, it didn't matter what they were watching so long as the drinks were available and Alan Rickman was the go-to guy.

What she's not expecting is to be handed a portrait beautifully illustrated by a fellow crewmate she's only seen in passing. She takes the paper first, the default reaction taking her all the way back to parking tickets and subpoenas and then her eyes fall to what's actually on it.]

Holy shit! You're like freakin' Davinci over here. I don't have a frame for this and my hands are sticky. I need a frame for this or one of those binder sleeves. I don't want to ruin it!

01. MOVIES

( billy doesn't know how many jello shots that he's had by the time he settles down on the floor, head propped up with his arm. he's not drunk but he's feeling pretty fuckin' good and relaxed and it's easy to forget about all the shit that's happened.

he closes his eyes, not intending to fall asleep, while he listens to the movie that's been picked. he's seen them before, both with becca, and that makes his heart lurch a bit. he tries not to think about her too much because of that hurt but sometimes the memories sneak up and he grimaces before getting up, anger on his face, so he can talk over to have another drink.

he doesn't want to think tonight. )

02. GAMES AND MAKEUP

( he doesn't know how the fingers of one of his hands have been painted but that's what's happened. he stares down at the bright green polish and gives them a wiggle before he looks around.

he makes a face and then picks up a bottle of polish and decides to paint the nails of his other hand. he's gotta match, doesn't he? it's not going to be a great job because he's not a nail painter but he's picked something bright red and he's going for it.

please don't laugh at how terrible he is at it. )

[ joe waggles his long fingers at billy, seemingly amused by his drunken fugue being all about nail care. he wouldn't have thought billy butcher would be a man for manicures, but that shows him for assuming. ]

[Harley doesn't have a face to put the name. They spoke briefly on the network but that felt like a lifetime ago and she's got her bottles aptly organized and has made make-shift mixers out of the ship's equivalent of disposable cups. It's not that she doesn't like the films, she just likes the bar a whole lot more.]

I used to paint my mom's nails, long, log time ago. [ Peter says with a shameless smile, once Billy has woken up from either a small nap or an impromptu drunken daze. He's sitting close, his back against two large pillows, fidgeting with a bottle of bright green nail polish. ]

Had I known you liked red best, I'd have chosen that color. Need help?

[ He holds a hand out, wiggling his fingers, clearly intending on Billy handing that bottle of polish right on over. He did Harley's the other night, he's totally an expert by now. ]

Trafalgar Law | One Piece

[SNAIL RELATED CULTURE SHOCK- Open]
[Law is either here under duress or vague curiosity, but either way, he's skulking around the fringes, not really trying to talk to anyone. That said, when the first movie starts up, he seemed surprised but not exactly confused. Like this is unusual but not completely outside his realm of understanding. Still, when he glances over to the projector, his brow furrows deeper. He goes over to it, examining it further.

On an objective level, he understands that technology is different here. The communicators obviously are substituting for some aspects of the transponder snails, but with how differently they operate, it didn't feel as jarring as this. If it wasn't projected Law would probably find it less strange.]

There really aren't any transponder snails here, huh.
[Musing to himself, but also easy to overhear. He should also probably be bothered to not be so sullen anyway.]

[TAROT READING- Peter Obviously]
[Law stares at him for a long moment, partly because of the very bad reading, and partly because he's thinking about the last tarot weirdo he encountered.]

That's not what The Tower means. I feel like it of all cards has a fairly obvious meaning in its illustration. It represents catastrophic change.
[As a goth it is his god given right to know at least a little bit about tarot.]

You come into my house on the day we're here to be jolly and chill, while Die Hard plays in the background, you insult my tarot reading....[ Peter deadpans, using the most Marlon Brando's voice he can muster. The joke probably would have landed better if Law were from his world and knew about the Godfather movie. Oh well. Peter listens to Law's explanation about the tower, and yeah, the meaning tracks, but he's only going to shrug and grab two vodka Jell-O shots from a nearby tray. ]

Lookie you, all knowledgeable about Tarot cards. I had no idea you had this kind of hidden depths. There, take this. You earned it. [ He handles Law a very bright green cup and keeps the red one for himself. ] I think I like my version better, though. Tell you what, we draw cards and interpret them, and whoever gives the best explanation earns another jell-o shot.

[ Count on Peter to be terrible at it on purpose just to get Law to have some fun and get a bit tipsy. ]

[ there's a movie playing, andy supposes, but she wasn't even going to come to this thing in the first place, so she has zero awareness of which one it might be. she knows she saw raiders of the lost ark before but only because nicky went on a rant about the ark immediately after. it could be judah's ark for all she knows. ]

[ no, joe told her there were jello shots at the party and then rudely refused to bring her any, tragically leaving her to come and find them for herself. ]

[ she's quick to locate them and make a beeline over to the table. she eats three of them immediately - two red, one blue, just licking them right out of the cups in three easy bites - then stacks one of each color onto a tray. for good measure, she takes one of the orange ones and eats it, holding the tray in her other hand. she is a pro at this. sweets and alcohol?? jello shots were made for her. maybe they're the reason she's been alive so long. she had to exist long enough to experience them, as a treat. ]

[ but really, is seven enough?? no, it is not. so she'll just double up the colors and get two of each instead. there's plenty, she won't have all of them. joe won't let her. ]

[ she'll scoop one more up from the table - purple - and tilt it like a toast if anyone swings by to grab some too. ] Taste the rainbow.

[ she'll sit down in a corner ready to rumble and will not turn away company, as long as you're bringing your own shots (byos). every single one on the tray is Hers, thank you very much. ]

[ or catch her about twenty minutes later, with a pile of empty containers on the tray, on her way to dispose of them properly. there are definitely at least twenty remains (did she grab more than those first fourteen of her double rainbow?? a mystery), but andy is not moving super drunkenly. really, the shots have such a minimal amount, they don't do much for her, but she does very much enjoy the taste and the tiny wobble to her step. if she snags one more from the table on her way to the garbage, what are you gonna do about it?? ]

[ There is a movie playing, and Shang-chi has been joining the festivities — laughter, catching up and mingling, food — but yeah. He can’t turn down a good drink either, getting up to get a refill of his own.

He eyes Andy already at the table, downing colourful shot glasses on her own, and lets out an amused laugh. ]

Jello shots. Wow, these really take me back. [ One too many drunken parties and karaoke nights have ended doing too many jello shots. But he and Katy had graduated to regular ol’ shots.

Still. There’s a reason they’re a classic. ] I’m guessing alcohol doesn’t have the same kind of effect on you?

[Having experienced the joy of movies last time they had a movie night, Rosinante is plenty content to sit down and enjoy another round - or at least one, because sitting for that many hours straight is a lot. He's generally not far from Law throughout the event, but can be caught on his own when:]

1. Makeup
[Well, now this is different! And much appreciated, though Rosinante does glance around a bit before taking up a seat, as if he's not sure this was supposed to be left out.

He has actually acquired a few extra lipstick and eyeshadow colors over time, especially in Braccia, but honestly hasn't taken much chance to do anything outside his usual so far on the Ximilia, aside from going bare-faced when it fits better on some of the worlds they travel to. But this is clearly an invitation to try something new. He sorts through the box, pulls out a few shades, all bright - magenta, blue, orange, green, who knows?]

Might be time for a new look, I guess. No harm in that. I can do yours, too, if you want.

[He offers, should anyone drift by. It makes him miss Yanli, who disappeared from the station months ago. Had he ever had a sister in life, he would have hoped it would be someone like her.]

2. Tarot

[Whether he's found Peter or whether anyone else wants to give a go, he's curious about the cards.]

I've seen these things before. Fortune telling, right? You ever made a prediction that actually came true?

[No, he's not one to believe in this kind of superstition, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun, especially after having some of those jello shots. Hell, to go with those he's even broken out some of his flavored cigarettes - the few from Braccia that remain. Enjoy the fact that the smoke smells like ginger for once, sort of. That's got to be better than usual, right?]

They all work off Hermann like oil and water. But he isn’t here to chastise Rosinante for having a go at the tarot deck. Everyone is here to settle down and take a breather. All he can do is look curiously at the deck. ]

But it doesn’t require any understanding of astrology signs or any of the sort.

Yzak Jule | Gundam SEED | OTA baby

[ Yzak is here! Because he was invited. But because he was invited by Peter specifically, he puts up slightly less of a fuss than he usually would to come by.

He doesn't seem as into the [a. movies] this time around, his mind just rewinding back to Titanic. He has enough action in his life that Die Hard doesn't do much for him. He's not completely disinterested, but everybody else is focused and watching, so Yzak figures he'll do the same, occasionally idly scrolling through his phone.

He [b. snacks], and has some water. Jello shots and daquiris aren't really his preferred drinks, and he's not in the mood for beer. He's not even much of a drinker anyway, since he considers even this time on the station as being on duty, and he can't impair himself in case he has to move!

For the [c. games], he seems FUSSED about not knowing any of the Trivial Pursuit answers, because it makes him feel uncultured. And Yzak can be found not playing the game (because he's not playing!!!!!! if nobody knows anything!!!!!! that's pointless!!!!!!! ugh!!!!!!!), but simply sitting next to the box and reading over the cards and their answers with a focused sort of interest.

Finally, he makes his way to [Peter] when he sees the other man offering up readings. He's drawn in by his own curiosity, and he comes to regret that rather quickly once Peter gets started. Because after that first reading... ]

—HUH? Where the hell do you get something like that from!?

The cards, of course! It's obvious once you know how to read the signs and you get familiar with the mysteries of the occult.

[ What signs??? Peter is not telling, because he's very obviously just making shit up fun. The fact that he has a tray with Jell-O shots nearby and a few empty cups on a different tray shows that he had been eating them from time to time for inspiration. He grabs two cups and handles one to Yzak, a  bright green one, expecting the man to take it without complaint. ]

There, this might help you open the third eye. [ Peter downs his own cup in one go and hums at the taste. A moment later, he's shuffling the cards in his hand, even if that's not really necessary, and he's spreading the deck from left to right over the pillow. ] Pick a new one, and let's see what else the future has in store for you.

( Still feeling a bit cautious about group settings, he's nonetheless emerged from his self-imposed isolation to hang out. McCoy adds a bottle of whiskey to the stash of liquor, and makes a cozy nest of blankets and pillows for him and Jim (and really anyone who wants to join them, there's space made!).

Raiders gets his attention, though he loses interest in Die Hard, taking it upon himself to refill popcorn and drinks, make a plate of nachos, or let himself get blue glitter polish dabbed onto his nails and demonstrate the proper method to slurp jell-o shots in rapid succession.

Suffice to say, by the time Galaxy Quest starts? He's got a pleasant buzz going, and proceeds to get totally, 100% invested in the film. The gentle, peace-loving Thermians are obviously his favorite part, the human crew less so, and he proceeds to make commentary under his breath the entire time. The cast's arrival aboard get a bleakly uncomfortable little chuckle, less because of the Thermians' true appearance-- they're adorable --more so because of the horrifying transporter conditions.

As Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver navigate the interior of the ship's core, however, he explodes: )

( aside from the passionate lecture he's liable to launch into, he's willing to be coaxed into some of the games on offer, and will generally be in a decent mood for most of the evening. he'll plainly refuse to discuss anything about the last mission though. )

[ God okay Galaxy Quest is one of Raleigh's favorites, even if he was only a year old when it came out. It's a classic, okay. ]

Set design, [ Raleigh says, cause the whole movie (and moment) is just... meta as fuck. ] I guess they wanted it to look cool and dangerous, and since the Thermians built the whole ship based on the TV show, there you have it.

[ He considers. ]

No logic to it, though. At all.

Ziggy Berman | Fear Street

[Ziggy had been torn on whether she felt like indulging in normal stuff after all that crazy mission business, but Peter Quill is nothing if not very persistent on enjoying the finer things in life: movies, food, and general tomfoolery. So she goes to the movie night — and... even if she hates to admit it, she kind of likes being involved in it. A lot more than she thought she would. Maybe it's because she's tried so hard to distance herself from people back home and here, but... there's a relief in not trying so hard to be a lone warrior.

She watches Indiana Jones with rapt attention, popcorn cradled in her lap and eaten without looking at it.]

Maybe we should all start dressing like Indiana Jones when we go on missions.

☼ Make-up ☼

[Ziggy also has never really gravitated toward make-up before. That's more for the snooty girls, people like Sheila and her bitch brigade. Or Cindy, trying to be a mature, cool adult. Still... she couldn't deny there was some fun in the prospect of painting your face up. She used to do it a lot when she was really little, eager to mimic the rockers and performers of the 70's who never hesitated to draw all over themselves. She went for Halloween a the KISS drummer once. Did the make-up herself, too (... and then her sister adjusted it, because it looked terrible).

Lost in focus, she shoots for her favorite look instead, painting a familiar lightning bolt across one of her eyes.

These are food, are they not? [ xichen asks, holding three empty containers which used to house an array of colored jello and about to consume a fourth. ] The texture and flavours is quite delightful.

[ akin to what xichen expects from the cocktails that peter makes, but edible. which. wait. xichen looks at the table he's picked them up from, the shots are next to cocktails and drinks. ] Peter. Are these food?
