Daisy’s Room
[A lot of Daisy’s time the first few days back is spent in her room. Just having a bed again was nice. After having to get used to sleeping on a damp, hard floor. Startling at the sound of a knock on the door, Daisy turns her head to see if her roommate is here before getting up slower than she would’ve liked.]
Coming.
[Between not having much to eat in the last few weeks, and all of the fighting they had done. Daisy is feeling weaker than she would ever admit. Opening the door, Daisy smiles tiredly.]
Hey. What’s up?
[She totally wasn’t just asleep. Nope. Very much awake. There are dark circles under her eyes and wounds that have been patched up. Most of them are hidden, but a few can be seen on her face and hands.]
Kitchen
[When she isn’t sleeping, she can be found in the kitchen, heating up something simple. Zoning out as she waits for the food to finish up. Daisy turns when she hears footsteps approaching only to realize she never set a timer.]
Shit.
[Grabbing an oven mitt, she pulls out the chicken nuggets she had been cooking for herself, and they’re more or less burnt.]
Think they’ll be edible with enough ketchup?
Infirmary
[Daisy might not have any medical training, but even she knows she can’t keep the same bandages on until her wounds heal. Having just gotten out of the shower, Daisy makes her way back to the infirmary to grab a few supplies. She doesn’t know the drawers and cabinets like the people who work in here do however. So she can’t be as quick to get in and out of here as she’d like to be.]
Common Room
[Sprawled out on one of the couches reading a random book from the shelf, Daisy’s more or less just staring at the book, zoned out, when someone tries to catch her attention. Snapping out of it, she looks up in their direction.]
Hey.
[Pulling her feet in to give them room to sit, Daisy scoots up, so she’s not so slouched over.]
How are you doing?
[She’s looking better than she had the other day, but she’s still banged up pretty good.]
Training Room
[Finally feeling more like herself, Daisy wastes no time in getting back to training. For a while, she’s by herself in here. Taking out of her frustrations on a punching bag while blasting music, it feels good to be back in her old routine.
Suddenly her music lowers considerably, and she turns to see someone’s lowered it,]
Sorry, what?
[She assumes they were trying to say something to her and she just hadn’t heard them anyway.]

Eyes widening in excitement, Daisy reaches out to see if she can still feel him. Hopefully without hitting him.]
Whoa. That is seriously impressive.
no subject
I've still got a few tweaks to work out to make it a little steadier, but as soon as I do, I'll be sure to pass some along to you. I don't think I ever would have thought of doing something like this, so thanks for being my brainstorming partner. [He offers her a wink.]
The others I'm working on are ones to make a person's face look like a different face. The randomized one is going well. I bet it'll be just a few more days. When that one's done, would you be interested in trying it out?
no subject
[Still, she smiles when he tells her that she helped him come up with it.]
Yeah, definitely. Would it change my voice too, or just my physical appearance?
no subject
Just your physical appearance, although it wouldn't be hard to create a second talisman to modify a voice. [That would be much easier than appearance actually and he makes a note to scribble down some ideas for it.]
See, you're giving me more ideas already!
no subject
Just have to make sure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. Could be bad if it did.
no subject
That's a concern of mine as well. I don't plan to give them out to just anyone.
[He pauses then and tilts his head, considering. He hasn't asked anyone anything like this yet and he knows better than to not investigate for himself, but it doesn't hurt to hear the opinion of someone else.]
Everyone I've met here has seemed alright, but is there anyone here who you believe might be the kind of person who shouldn't have access to something like this?
no subject
I don't know.
[Rosi comes to mind, but she still hasn't spoken with him about the whole incident with Newt. God, she really hopes that isn't true.]
no subject
That's alright, I appreciate it anyway. I don't think I'll be giving these ones out to just anyone anyway, and only on missions.
I can't think of a single good reason for someone to turn invisible or change into someone else while we're here.
no subject
Who else knows about all of this?
no subject
As of now, just you, Nie Huaisang, Lan Xichen, Gwen, and Itachi. [He'd considered for a moment leaving Itachi's name out, not just because he knows Itachi values his privacy, but also to avoid any sort of discussion on Itachi's character, but it only takes him a second to decide that he'd rather defend it than stay silent about it if the need arises.
He pauses for a moment and then adds—] Are there any men here who you believe might abuse something like this for dishonorable purposes, Daisy?
[He's not unaware of how easily something like invisibility or a disguise might be abused. There were more devious uses of course, but this one remains the most obvious abuse to him. He's met too many awful men in his life not to ask the question.]
no subject
When he asks her that question, she almost regrets asking to begin with.]
No, but—
Just be careful of you share this information with. It could be bad if it ends up in the wrong hands. Here or on missions.
no subject
Yeah. People can be the worst, can't they? [And then he laughs, the heaviness from before dismissed.] I understand your concerns, Daisy. I don't plan to give these out to just anyone, and they can't be effectively copied by anyone aside from Ze—ah, Lan Xichen or Nie Huaisang.
no subject
Eyebrows lifting when he mentions the only other two who could apparently copy his creation, it hadn't occurred to her that...]
Do they have the same powers as you?
no subject
We're all cultivators. That's the word we use where we're from for people who can manipulate and train their qi—their spiritual energy. Neither of them focus as much on talisman development as me and we all have different methods of cultivation.
[But as to the point at hand...] Lan Xichen won't be copying these to give out. You don't have to worry about that. Huaisang might make some, but it's unlikely he'd pass them around. I'll talk with him just in case. He's a little...[How to call your childhood best friend a ditz without calling him a ditz?] Spacey. But he's a good person. He'll understand the risks.
no subject
[Sorry, but he's got her curious now. She always enjoys hearing how other people's powers work. She smiles at his hesitation on what to call his friend, but it's clear that he means it in a nice way regardless.]
And they're okay with me possibly using one of them at some point?
no subject
We're all from different sects. Lan Xichen's sect specializes in musical cultivation. They can channel spiritual energy through playing music and use it for both defense and offense. The Lan sect is known for being poised and righteous. [Which. He has opinions about. But now isn't the time for that.]
Huaisang is from the Nie clan. They're known to be fierce warriors and they use sabers instead of swords which is actually a bigger deal in the cultivation world than you might think. The way of the sword is considered best cultivation practices. [He pauses, thinking of his friend, and adds] Huaisang has always been more of a free spirit than the rest of his sect though. [The drama student born to a family of jocks. Poor Huaisang.]
And I'm...well, I was adopted into the Yunmeng Jiang sect. Our style is less rigid than other styles and it emphasizes flexibility and adaptability. [It's the sect he says the least about before returning to her second question.]
As for needing permission, Huaisang wouldn't care, and Lan Xichen...[Can literally go and fuck himself if he tries to police his talisman use here?] Well he's not the one who invented these, is he? You don't need their permission Daisy.
no subject
So are these abilities you’re born with, or is it magic that is taught to you?
no subject
A little bit of both, but only in the strictest sense.
You might have heard of "qi" before, [he says, and the word sounds like "chi" to her ears.] Despite the lack of cultivation in other worlds, the concept appears to be prevalent. If you have not, "qi" is living energy. It runs through all things living; human, plant, or animal. Everyone is born with "qi" in the same way everyone is born with blood. You should have it too, I've verified with people from different worlds and that appears consistent.
Everyone who is born with "qi" may become a cultivator and everyone is born with "qi." It's not magic the way I've heard magic described here. [Magic the way he's come to hear about it here is...unearned. Practiced yes, trained certainly, but not honed the way cultivation is. Not cultivated inside of the body with years of blood, sweat, and tears.]
But just because anyone can cultivate does not mean they will. To become a cultivator, one must hone their inner "qi" through intense meditation and physical training. If someone works hard enough and is young enough, that "qi" will form spiritual energy, "ling qi." It must be done young. That is the main limiting factor. Those with spiritual energy are called cultivators.

[Daisy says, once he’s finished with his explanation. At this point her rock hard chicken nuggets have been completely abandoned.]
And kind of what my ability is like. There’s vibrations in everything, and I can tap into it.
no subject
At the mention of her own abilities, he lights up.]
What's your ability like?
no subject
Ready?
[Lifting her hand she uses her power to move the water in the glass. Stopping just before it can shatter.]
It's more impressive than that, but I'm not trying to break anything on the station.
no subject
It isn't a control of water or liquids then, but something else, correct? You can apply this to other materials?
[It's not entirely dissimilar to how some spiritual energy functioned, but it's still unique and her control is stunning.]
no subject
Everything has vibrations, I can tap into them.
no subject
Is it something you were born with?
