[Despite advocating for a glimmer of hope, he does nod alongside what she says in response. He has two parts within him, always - and while the realist often wins out, his life would be awfully dark if he hadn't tried to find the bright parts of it and reach for them. It's hope that keeps him fighting for those who can't fight for themselves, because otherwise it would be hard most days to not just throw in the towel and let injustice win. And it's hope that let him come this far in his own life, too. If he can't fix things, if he still dies young, at least he made a difference along the way.
