I do agree, it's not worth it when one becomes obsessed and corrupted.

But having none at all, unable to take any sort of action take any control of your circumstance ... that's just as frightening. And the lines always move and vary and blur so it's never easy to know when you're somewhere "safe." Is there's even a place considered as much.
