[A mental tether can do a lot of things, depending on how deeply Clayton is able to initiate it and how willing the other party is to accept its presence. A spike like this directly into Minimus's mind provides many of those things for a fraction of a second: He briefly sees through the Cybertronian's eyes as the illusion fades away, interspersed with flashes of memory about needles in the back of a his neck, and - most alarmingly - a feeling of familiarity, all before Clayton allows the connection to fizzle. He doesn't need to maintain that sort of contact for any longer than necessary, and feels dirty for even allowing himself to go that far in the first place. Considering that his soul is still stuck to the outside of Minimus's mind, that regret should come through pretty clearly, as should Clayton's surface-level thoughts that he directs towards him.]
[The sound of his voice doesn't come from any particular direction, but Minimus shouldn't have too hard of a time spotting Clayton's apparently lifeless body slumped in a face-down heap by the classroom door.]

It's just me--it's Clayton! You're safe. I'm sorry. Please don't panic.
