"Emry has a soft spot for kids who've grown up on the street like him," Cassie says with a half-smile.
In her spot, Ya-ting stretches, stands up. In the visor, there's faint flickers of something — code, perhaps, flashing past so fast it's hard to imagine she catches all of it... and yet, she doesn't look to even focus very hard.
"Ya know, my job'd be a lot easier if everyone thought like you, Rosie." Rosie? Because of the hair, probably. "Not being tech-savvy's a bummer, though, I'd've liked to work with ya. But en-pee," she enunciates the letters separately, "Ray-ray's got ya. Anyway, Cinder's waiting, we got a date!"
As if on cue, there's the sound of high heels clicking against the floor, and a heavily body-modded woman walks in, wearing clothes that look like snake-skin.
"Heyyyy, I was just coming!" Ya-ting waves at Cassie and Ziggy, while Cinder gives a curious look at Ziggy before Ya-ting drags her away.
Cassie sighs.
"So, back to business. A bit of everything's a good start. I can have you start with preparing supplies, and if that goes well, you can assist those who are building vehicles for our use. We'll give you a bed to set wherever there's space, and there's three meals a day — nothing much, but it gets us by. If you have any experience in medicine, there's going to be need for that, too, any time we bring in people." She crouches down, her leather jacket crinkling.
"This isn't going to be glamorous work. Most of the time, a revolution's just preparing for what's ahead, it's taking care of people, it's waking up every day and choosing to do better. If you can handle that... well, we'll see. For now, let me get you settled in. You can start later today with the supplies."
She leads Ziggy to get bedding, some spare clothes and some leftover food tablets from the meal they had earlier, and then tells her to check in later with a group of people — all without masks or gear, seeming to be those members without codenames, who are sorting out different humanitarian aid supplies. That's what she'll do for the first several days; then, if she does well, she'll move to help an older man called Ronan (yes, the same Ronan Emry mentioned) find the parts he needs to build several flycycles.
Around the time the second log will be up, she'll have been working with the Fables for long enough to be able to head out again. During her time there she'll see some of the more senior members — Emry checks up on her irregularly regularly, Cassie is around most of the time, while Ya-ting spends most of her time in what must have once been an info desk room. Cinder comes around a few times, and she even spots Callan once as he comes to speak with Ya-ting. There are other names that get mentioned, other codes (the Lion, the Wasp, to mention a few), but either those people spend their time on the field, or there's no one to introduce them to her when they happen to be around.
