[ If it weren't because Newt was trying to kill him, Peter would congratulate him on his combat pragmatism. You need to use everything to your advantage because honor doesn't keep you alive. Unfortunately, having someone dig their fingers into an open wound hurts like a bitch. Peter lets out a pained wail, black spots dancing in front of his eyes and head swimming, nerves alight as if there's liquid fire in his veins.
Unable to focus, Newt's kick effectively throws him backward and off of him after his foot connects with the Guardian's chest. Winded and reeling from the pain, his movements are sluggish, but Peter manages to dodge the blaster fire at the last moment. One of the shots hits his bicep instead of his neck by pure luck, and several pieces of furniture around him explode after being hit. Anger goes a long way, though, and Peter knows that if Newt gets away other people's lives will be in danger, so he tries to stand up on wobbly legs and fire at Newt, aiming for the man's arm and, in his rush, forgetting about the talisman.Â
That turns out to be a big mistake, something that Peter immediately realizes as the blast of energy hits back, and he has to raise his arms in front of his face to avoid the worst of it. It's still too much, and he gets pushed against the broken wall of the cart and out of the train. It gives Newt the chance to get as far as possible for as long as it takes Peter to react. It's only thanks to the use of his jetpack that the Guardian doesn't end up drowned in the sea. He's exhausted by the time he makes it back to the train, bleeding from all his wounds and feeling sick, passing out almost immediately. Once the others stop the Precursors, retrieve the orb, and they are all beamed back to the station, Finn and Rey will use their healing powers to help Peter. So at least Newt doesn't have to worry about possibly having killed one of his friends. ]
