It happens quite suddenly, and anything sudden is doubly startling for someone as gentle and slow-moving as Blue is. He goes quite still, his expression shifting out of its mild, thoughtful shade to something more fraught. Whatever it is Yzak is saying, he can't hear it anymore, because all he can hear and feel is--

"...Newt...?"

[ The reason that they're here together in the first place is because running into Blue on his own way to grab a bite to eat, Yzak suddenly so vividly remembered the last thing the Mu had said to him before pushing him back into the waking world. And maybe, JUST MAYBE those words were still on his mind, so he offered the other to accompany him.

So what is it that Yzak's saying in this moment? Something that should be ignored anyway, because he's complaining, so it's good that Blue is zoning out. ]

And, ugh, of course that fucking bastard [ Athrun. ] ended up invading my privacy there as well!! [ He throws a hand up - the one holding his salad fork. ] Of all the people on this team, he's the one I wanted there least! My memories are none of his business! And it was like that so-called dream sickness was trying to show the worst things to him!

[ Grouch, grouch, grouch. This is what one gets when they agree to lunch with Yzak.

He moves to take another forkful of salad when he notes Blue's sudden change in demeanor and expression. Pausing, he raises his eyebrows. ]

Huh...? Newton? What about him?

[firstroar]

[Blue sets his own utensil down, sitting upright.]

His thoughts...just...stopped.

[an ominous statement for an ominous happening.]

Wait--

[he closes his eyes, beginning to glow faintly as he sends his mind out to investigate. nothing terrible will come of it.]

[coordination]

[ If this wasn't Blue saying it, Yzak would probably make a smart-assed quip about having thoughts in the first place or something. But as it stands, since it is coming from Blue, it's ... alarming. ]

What do you mean stopped?

[ There's a tentative nervousness bubbling up inside of him, too. But as he doesn't have neat mental projection powers, all he can do instead is sit there awkwardly in silence, alone, for a couple of moments while Blue does that. ]

[firstroar]

[it's not terribly long - Blue is able to chase the distressing notion to its source, to find Newt incapacitated and the young woman who had already come across him. he wastes little time to reach in and try to--]

Hh-! Ah--

[something of a faded after-image of his own projection flickers as it's snapped back to his body in tatters, the gentle glow flaring to something brighter for a second before vanishing. that Dreadful Feeling permeates the space in a pulse, an ominous, monstrous sound coming with it before it, too, is cut off in tandem with the disappearance of the projection.

Blue's breath catches in his throat, his body jerking in a way that has him nearly fall out of his seat before going limp and sagging.]

[coordination]

Hey—

[ It all happens quickly. Yzak perks up when Blue starts responding again, and then his eyes widen when he feels that sudden, awful, powerful pulse of energy. Hears it ring in his own head until it abruptly cuts off.

And then automatically, he moves before he can even completely recover from that. Quick Coordinator reflexes and movement allowing him to stand, to lunge, to catch Blue in his arms before he has a chance to fall to the floor. ]

Blue!

What's going on!? What happened!?

[ Please answer him. He even tries calling out to him with his mind. Blue! ]

[firstroar]

[Blue's fingers clench and eyes flutter as he tries to hang onto consciousness, grasping at the sharp focus Yzak's fixed upon him. it's hard, though: that retaliation was intense, violent...it wanted to hurt him.]

Teeth-- Pain-- [just fragments of effort to explain.] Ss, something--

[he can't. can't explain, not in the midst of reeling from it.]

[coordination]

What the fuck...

[ He mutters, but he'll talk to him about this later. Once he's rested. Yzak easily, but carefully, scoops up his frail body into his arms (bridal style, baby). ]

Let's get you out of here.

[ Are you ... hurt? Do you need me to take you to the infirmary? Or do you need to just recover your strength? He knows that Blue might not be able to rest as well if he's around too many other minds, right now. ]

[firstroar]

[regrettably, Blue is in no state to advise, simply lifted and conveyed as Yzak sees fit, the picture of discomfort. he becomes something of a morbid dowsing rod for pain, as taking him in the direction of the infirmary - where the source of the attack is currently being conveyed - causes Blue to wince and stifle a pained sound. yet moving elsewhere, away from clusters of minds, seems to come with an easing of that burden.]

[coordination]

[ It only takes one of those responses for Yzak to catch on.

Right, then. Not going anywhere in that direction! He's worried - for Blue, for Newton, because what is happening, here? But despite the worry, he's focused, the leader in him letting the correct priority ensure that he does the right thing here, and with the right amount of care. He can stop to think and worry once Blue is somewhere safe and resting.

So he detours to the rooms - towards Blue's room specifically. And, ok, he doesn't feel that weird about randomly barging into someone else's room. But, ]

This is an emergency, so it's technically not a misdemeanor..!

[ He mutters more to assure himself.

And then once he's in, he gently sets Blue down on the bed so he's comfortable. Making sure his pillow's fluffed, covers appropriately draped over him, the works.

And now Yzak doesn't know what to do until he stirs. But he knows he's not leaving his side. So he opts to sit down in the armchair nearby to keep an eye on him just in case something else ends up happening. ]

[firstroar]

[aside from that flinching to indicate distress, Blue is at least not much for flailing or writhing - that takes energy he lacks. his limp frame offers no resistance to being settled and fussed with, and there'd be barely any indication of trouble were it not for the still-strained expression he wears.

it's some time before the migraine-like throb in his skull eases up enough for Blue to stir - a half hour or more, perhaps, which is no kindness to Yzak's worry. moreover, beyond that slight bit of shifting, the Mu seems not much for sitting up or even opening his eyes.]

Where-- [he halts his own thought, noticing the "scent" of Yzak's presence.]

Yzak-?

[coordination]

[ Immediately he turns his head toward him. ]

You're back.

[ Finally, he thinks. But it's a relieved finally, not an impatient one. ]

How are you feeling?

[firstroar]

[not well. not well at all! he's never had his psyche savaged by a kaiju's maw before...

but speaking of--] ...Newt. Where is he?

[coordination]

I don't know.

I tried reaching out to him, but he didn't answer. [ On the earpieces. But obviously Newton was a little, you know, passed the fuck out for a while there. There's as much of a worry about that that Blue can feel as there is on himself. But despite it, Yzak appears to be keeping his cool. ] I'll find out where he is shortly. But, I wanted to make sure you were okay, first.

[firstroar]

[Blue's brow furrows with the effort to try and move...best he can do is open his eyes.]

No. No, he...it was in him. That...presence. That's what--

Newt...

Help him.

[coordination]

Hey - calm down - whatever the hell just happened looks like it fucked with you badly enough! [ He doesn't want Blue to overexert himself and pass right out again! ]

I'll go find him, alright?

But I need to know what happened back there, first. What did you feel? Where did you go when you saw him?

When you came back, I felt — I felt something, too.

[firstroar]

[there's a flash of frustration and anger on his features - something rare, especially in this context. seriousness? sure. concern? absolutely. but anger is something that burns behind a closely-guarded hand of self-control and a predisposition to lash inward, not outward.

that doesn't get him out of bed or helping anyone though, does it? and so, anger.

but it's just a flash; he stays his thoughts, keeping himself from making it clear that his own fate is more or less sealed, whereas a younger man like Newt needs more care.

his jaw clenches as he swallows against a tight throat.]

There's something dark...violent in Newt's head. It isn't Newt. It's...different. Entirely different. When Newt's voice was cut off, and when I tried to reach it... It lashed out.

He's the one in danger. Go. Please.

[coordination]

[ Wow guess who isn't comparing the worth of your lives here! It's Yzak! ]

That's what that was...?

[ What the hell is going on? He thinks to himself, though Blue is obviously privy to the thought.

Yzak stands up. ]

I'll be back.

[ And swiftly, leaving behind the lingering feeling of a growing concern, Yzak steps out.



He's not gone for entirely too long. Because his visit to the infirmary is brief, Newt's still recovering. There's nothing Yzak, specifically, can do aside from confirm his current state. Which isn't a preferable state, but at least he's being taken care of and the doctor gets an idea of what it was that Blue dealt with on his end.

So he returns, giving Blue's door a light knock before he pokes his head in to confirm he's still awake (conscious). ]

[firstroar]

[try as he might, Blue can't follow Yzak in his thoughts. it hurts to think too hard, to strain try to force his will to reach out. this leaves Blue to simmer in painful silence, for even the ambient vibrations of other minds is clouded out by pain.

being alone... entirely alone... it's the worst. so for that time, it is just Blue and those distorted, gnashing images replaying in his aching head. he can't tell if the familiarity is from himself, or from Newt - the threads that tie it all together are tangled in knots he'd have to be far stronger to unravel on the spot. too soon, too raw.

but if he doesn't, will Newt be in danger? Newt was on the ground, trembling...

by the time Yzak returns, the best Blue's done is turn on his side, propping himself up by an elbow, head bowed with the effort. he tenses at the sudden sting of focus coming at him, holding his breath a beat before realizing who it is.]

Yzak.

[coordination]

Hey.

[ Once acknowledged, he steps inside and shuts the door behind him. ]

He's ... [ A pause. ] 'okay' isn't the word to use. He's still out of it. But he is in the infirmary being tended to, at the very least.

I talked to Doctor McCoy, too, about ... what you felt.

[firstroar]

[Blue lifts his head, peering up at Yzak through his bangs, looking a whole tired mess.]

And...the danger? Still present?

[coordination]

I don't know.

[ He admits, feeling a bit useless in that regard. ] He wasn't conscious yet. And I can't, you know, sense that sort of thing like you can. Whatever else the Doctor follows up on, assuming he can, will hopefully get a clearer answer for that.

[ Especially if it's something ... in his head? Like Blue said. Yzak moves back to the armchair nearby (maybe he even moved it a little closer to Blue's bed earlier, so he could keep an eye on him!!), dropping down into it and leaning back with a small sigh. ]

And, what about you? Are you feeling any better?

[firstroar]

[Blue closes his eyes and exhales harshly through his nose.]

I can't...untangle it. Decipher it. The presence that attacked me. Newt. There's a familiarity tied to it...but I don't understand how.

[that is simultaneously an answer and not an answer to the question.]

[coordination]

I know ... he had some sort of connection - communication with those things that were attacking his world, the kaiju. What he told me about that drifting technology they use, it sounds like you share yourself, your memories with who you connect with.

Could you have tapped into something like that? A 'memory' that he holds that isn't his and only seeks to harm. Maybe falling victim to that sleep spell during the last mission caused something strange to happen, due to its nature of trapping us in our own memories.

[ It's all assumption based on the scattered information he has (and the important pieces that he doesn't, more importantly), but it's all he can come up with. Why else would Blue be rejected, attacked? Newton himself wouldn't do something like that. ]

[firstroar]

A beast...from his nightmares...

[Blue sinks back on his side, drawing his hand up to cradle his head.]

That's right...his world was full of them...

[coordination]

Mmm. [ A noise of agreement. ] So maybe it's something like that.

We can't figure out more with him unconscious at the moment, either way.

That, and it might not be a good idea for you to tap into his thoughts right away, anyway. Whatever just happened clearly took a toll on you, too.
